Norwalk Police Arrest Man Who Tried To Break Into Auto Shop NORWALK, Conn. -- A Stamford man was arrested on drug and attempted burglary charges in Norwalk on Monday after police said he tried to break into an auto shop. Andrew Michaud, 50, was charged with criminal mischief, possession of burglar's tools, third-degree criminal trespassing, criminal attempt at third-degree burglary and possession of narcotics. Norwalk Man Accused Of Kicking Two Police Officers NORWALK, Conn. -- A Norwalk man was accused of hitting two police officers during a struggle early Saturday morning. William Varela-Araya, 43, was charged with assault on a peace officer, disorderly conduct, second-degree threatening and interfering with an officer. He was held on a $75,000 bond and appeared in court Monday. Police responded to a home on Fairview Avenue at 1:33 a.m., Saturday, on a report of a disturbance. Darien Friendly's Closes Its Doors After 40 Years DARIEN, Conn. -- The Friendly's Restaurant in Darien closed its doors this week after 40 years in business on busy Route 1. The Darien location of the popular food and ice cream chain opened on the Post Road near the Norwalk border in 1974. The restaurant closed Tuesday, removing all signs from the building and the site. Motorcyclists Hit Fairfield County Roads In State's Largest 9/11 Tribute FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Thousands of motorcyclists will hit the streets and travel throughout Fairfield County on Sunday in honor of the victims of Sept. 11 as part of the 14th annual CT United Ride.
