Norwalk Police Crack Down On Speeders, Drunken Drivers NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk Police issued more than 200 tickets during its Back to School Slow Down Days last week and made several arrests during a DUI checkpoint Friday. Between Aug. 22 and Aug. 29 officers patrolled around the city during the morning and afternoon hours, targeting drivers speeding near schools. Rowayton Firefighters Knock Down Witch Lane Blaze; House Destroyed ROWAYTON, Conn. -- The Rowayton Fire Department knocked down a fire that consumed a home on Witch Lane late Thursday night. The fire was reported at about 9 p.m. at a home at 56 Witch Lane, according to the Rowayton Fire Department. A nanny staying with two kids discovered the fire and ran upstairs, grabbed the children and got out of the house. The family dog also escaped the fire, fire officials said. Nobody was injured. Norwalk Police To Conduct DUI Checkpoint Friday Evening NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk police will be conducting a DUI checkpoint Friday night. The checkpoint will be located along the West Avenue corridor and last from 7 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday, police said. There will also be additional officers roaming the city on the lookout for drunk drivers. The checkpoint is 75 percent funded by a grant from the Connecticut Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office. The extra patrols are part of the Labor Day weekend enforcement.
