Darien Residents Question Expansion Of Flood Areas On New Maps DARIEN, Conn. – Several Darien residents are seeking answers to questions about new flood maps that place their homes in flood zones -- and could increase their insurance rates. The town recently released new flood maps for the Stony Brook and Goodwives River watersheds, which will take effect in August or September. The maps were devised by FEMA based on hydraulic studies by Milone and MacBroom, an engineering firm hired by the town after flooding in 2006 and 2007. Sign Stolen From Entrance To Darien's Cherry Lawn Park DARIEN, Conn. -- A sign has been stolen from Cherry Lawn Park in Darien, according to police. Employees of the Parks and Recreation Department noticed the sign was missing from the entrance to the park on Monday, May 12. The 3-foot by 3-foot sign reads "Cherry Lawn Park - Darien Nature Center - Darien Parks and Recreation Commission." It is valued at $1,500 to 2,000, according to police. The sign was broken off from its posts, police said. Police are investigating the incident.

IPods, CDs Reported Stolen From Darien Home DARIEN, Conn. -- A Darien man reported that several iPods and CDs were stolen out of his house on Cliff Avenue, police said. The man reported the theft on the afternoon of Friday, May 16, police said. He told police that three iPods, a GPS and a milk crate full of CDs had been stolen out of his living room. He had last seen the items the night before and had left the house between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., according to police. The man lives alone, and has not had any workers in the house, police said. Darien Woman Arrested After Fight With Fiance, Brother DARIEN, Conn. -- A 25-year-old Darien woman was arrested after fighting with her fiance and brother after an evening out to celebrate a birthday, police said. Police were called to the woman's Noroton Avenue apartment at about 2 a.m. Sunday. The woman, her fiance and her brother had gone out that night to celebrate the brother's birthday, police said. When the brother and fiance returned home, police said they thought the woman would follow them, but she got a ride home from a friend later that night. Police: Money Stolen From Bedrooms Of Darien Home DARIEN, Conn. -- Money was reported stolen out of two bedrooms at a home on Hoyt Street in Darien, according to police. The theft was reported on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 14. The resident of the home said that an employee of an air duct cleaning service was in the house between 1:30 and 3:12 p.m. When the employee left, the woman noticed that money was missing from her two daughters' bedrooms. Man Charged With Punching Out Windows At Norwalk Fire Station NORWALK, Conn. -- A Waterbury man was arrested after he was found breaking windows at a Norwalk fire station Friday night, police said. Danny Palmer, 47, was charged with second-degree criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. He was issued a summons to appear in court May 26. Police: Norwalk Man Shot In Leg During Fight With Roommates NORWALK, Conn. -- A Norwalk man was shot in the leg during a dispute with his roommates Sunday night, May 18, according to police. Robinson Osorio, 49, was charged with first-degree assault and unlawful discharge of a firearm. Marco Osorio, 82, was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct. The victim of the shooting, Emmanual Arango, 23, was charged with second-degree breach of peace and assault on a victim over 60. Police: Gunman Fires Shots At Group Outside Norwalk Grocery Store NORWALK, Conn. -- Someone fired multiple shots at a group of people outside a grocery store in Norwalk on Friday night, but no injuries were reported, according to police. The group was standing outside a grocery store on West Cedar Street at about 8 p.m. Friday when someone came out from behind a parked car and fired multiple rounds at the group, police said. Nobody in the group was hit, and no one was able to identify the person who fired the shots, according to police. The matter is being investigated by the Detective Bureau.

Norwalk Police Marine Unit Sets Sail For Safe Boating Week NORWALK, Conn. -- The Marine Unit of the Norwalk Police Department will be out making sure people are safe this weekend as part of National Safe Boating Week. The Marine Unit patrols the 40 square miles of water that includes Norwalk Harbor, Five Mile River and Wilson Cove. The unit consists of four members: Sgt.
