The fire began at about 9 p.m. on the second floor of 49 Poningo St., according to the Port Chester Fire Department. Connecticut Girl Falls Between Gap At Port Chester Train Station PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- A 3-year-old girl fell between a train and the platform at the Port Chester train station Tuesday but suffered only minor injuries, according to police. The girl was running ahead of her mother as they were exiting the southbound train at about 10 a.m. when she fell into the gap, police said. A nearby man reached down, grabbed the girl and quickly pulled her up. The girl, whose family hails from Bridgeport, Conn., hit her head and scraped her knee. An ambulance took her to Greenwich Hospital for examination.

National Youth Orchestra Trains, Performs At Purchase HARRISON, N.Y. -- The First National Youth Orchestra will kick off its summer tour with a performance on Thursday at Purchase College in Harrison, where the musicians have been taking part in a two-week training residency. The orchestra was created by Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute, and gathers 120 orchestral players between 16 and 19 years old. Port Chester May Charge Fee For After School Programs PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Port Chester schools may implement a fee-based after- school program because it lost out on $1.4 million in state grant money. The district was not awarded the 21st Century Community Learning Center grant from the state Department of Education that it has received in the past to fund after school programs, according to Assistant Superintendent Frank Fanelli. Harrison Libraries Launch Summer Reading Game HARRISON, N.Y. – The Harrison Public Library and the West Harrison Library will launch their annual Summer Reading Game Monday with parties at both branches. Kids will get a chance to meet live animals at the kick-off parties, including frogs, chickens and hedgehogs. During the summer kids are encouraged to read as much as they can. The libraries will keep reading logs for children, and reward them with gold stars for every 15 minutes of reading.
