Rye Charity Provides Backpacks To Needy Students RYE, N.Y. -- The Rye-based nonprofit Helping Hands for the Homeless & Hungry will host its 26th annual Empty School Backpack Project on Aug. 12 and 13 to provide school supplies for underprivileged children. The organization's goal is to provide 2,000 backpacks to students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Harrison Town Clerk Jackie Greer has been working with the New York State Thruway Authority to become a sales point for the E-Z Pass tags.
