Port Chester Students Awarded At State Music Festival PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Port Chester Middle School musicians won several Gold Awards at the New York State School Music Association's annual spring evaluation festival. The sixth grade chorus won a Gold Award on Level Two. The 103 students in the chorus sang "Al Shlo Sha D'Varim," "Shake the Papaya Down" and "Ja-Da" under the direction of Mark Zizolfo. The sixth grade band won a Gold Award on Level One. The 60-member band played "Valley Forge March," "Two English Dances" and "Imperium" under the direction of Linda McDermott. Rye Brook Recreation will host the party, which will include free drinks, games, rides, a band and a DJ. Court Dismisses Lawsuit To Restore Rye Bus Line RYE, N.Y. -- A lawsuit to restore the canceled Route 76 bus line from Rye to Port Chester was dismissed by a Supreme Court judge Wednesday. The lawsuit was filed by Board of Legislators Chairman Ken Jenkins (D-Yonkers) after the bus route was canceled in 2012. County Executive Rob Astorino terminated the bus line citing low ridership and a $243,000 annual cost. Harrison Hosts Westchester Walk To Defeat ALS June 23 HARRISON, N.Y. -- Manhattanville College in Harrison will host the annual Westchester Walk to Defeat ALS on June 23. The event is sponsored by the ALS Association - Greater NY Chapter and co-chaired by Fran and Bill Monti of North Salem. ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, is a disease of nerve cells that affects voluntary muscle movement. It is usually genetic, and is incurable and fatal. Purchase College Receives Grant For Film Studies HARRISON, N.Y. -- Purchase College in Harrison has received a grant from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to support the Minority and Women in the Film Industry screening and lecture series. The $10,000 grant will allow the school to bring film professionals for screenings and workshops. Last year Purchase launched its  "Great Directors, Great Films" series of screenings, which brought award-winning directors, cinematographers and actors to campus. Ridge Street Bridge In Rye Brook Closes Wednesday RYE BROOK, N.Y. -- The Ridge Street bridge over 1-287 in Rye Brook will be closed Wednesday through Aug. 16 for construction. Workers from the New York State Department of Transportation will be replacing the bridge deck. A signed detour will route traffic onto Westchester Avenue and Purchase Street. Work will be accelerated on the project to complete construction during the summer months. Nighttime work is not planned, but there will be some nighttime work and lane closures on I-187 under the bridge.
