Rye Playland Opens For The Season On Saturday RYE, N.Y. -- Rye Playland kicks off its new season Saturday with an opening day event featuring special admission prices and entertainment. Beatles Tribute Band Plays Capitol Theatre Saturday Night PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Beatles tribute band the Fab Faux will perform the entirety of the "Abbey Road" album along with other favorites Saturday night at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester. Rye Playland Opens Rebuilt Boardwalk Ahead Of Schedule RYE, N.Y. -- The boardwalk at Rye Playland opened Friday after undergoing extensive repairs to damage sustained during Hurricane Sandy last year. About 13,000 square feet of boardwalk was replaced for a little more than $2 million. The entire boardwalk will be open to the public for the opening of the park on Saturday, May 11. Port Chester's Carver Center Hosts Basketball Tournament PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- The Carver Center in Port Chester will host the third-annual Waine Grose Basketball Tournament Scholarship Fundraiser on May 22. Grose was a resident of Port Chester and chef who passed away in 2010 at 24. His mother, Janet, started a scholarship to keep his memory alive, and every year awards money to a Port Chester High School graduate who wants to pursue culinary arts in college. Harrison Police To Step Up Seat Belt Law Enforcement HARRISON, N.Y. -- Make sure you're wearing your seat belt when driving through Harrison. The Harrison Police Department will aggressively enforce the seat belt laws during a two-week campaign from May 20 to June 2. "In New York State, it is estimated that only about 84 percent of motorists wear safety restraints. Dog Park Approved In Port Chester's Abendroth Park PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Calling all dogs who want to play in the park. Port Chester will have a dog park in Abendroth Park where pooches can play off leash. The Board of Trustees unanimously approved the site as the location for a dog park at its meeting this week. There are some issues that need to be worked out, including funding, liability and rules for the park. The approval of the site allows the Port Chester Dog Park Group to start fundraising for the project. Rye Brook Vietnam Vet Gets Purple Heart After 43 Years RYE BROOK, N.Y. -- Rye Brook resident Jim Smith was awarded a Purple Heart medal last week for injuries he sustained while fighting in the Vietnam War 43 years ago. U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer presented the award to Smith at his Rye Brook home last week. Smith had contacted Schumer's office last year after applying for a Purple Heart and being denied by a review board. Rye Recreation Hosts Trip To Adventure Camp RYE, N.Y. -- Rye kids can enjoy a day of rope courses, zip lines and adventure this June. Rye Recreation will host a bus trip on June 21 to the Adventure Park at the Discovery Museum in Bridgeport, Conn. Kids ages 12 and up will get to spend the day up in the trees on the various rope courses and activities. Rye Recreation will provide chaperones, transportation and a pizza lunch. Rye School District Maintains AAA Bond Rating RYE, N.Y. -- The Rye City School District has retained its AAA Bond Rating from Moody's Investors Service, Superintendent Frank Alvarez announced Tuesday. The rating has been assigned to the district's $16.35 million in bonds for reconstruction projects at the high school. "The AAA rating reflects the district's healthy financial position with ample reserves, sizeable and affluent tax base and favorable debt profile," Moody's said in an announcement.
