Westchester County, State Disagree On Fallen Harrison Road Sign HARRISON, N.Y. -- A highway sign that fell on Westchester Avenue in Harrison Tuesday has led to a disagreement between the state and county over who is responsible for the sign. The overhead sign at Exit 9S where I-287 meets the Hutchinson River Parkway fell onto Westchester Avenue around noon Tuesday when the bolts at the base came off. Rye Brook Swears In New Mayor, Board Of Trustees RYE BROOK, N.Y. -- The village of Rye Brook held a swearing in ceremony for newly elected Mayor Paul Rosenberg and the new Board of Trustees on Tuesday. Rosenberg, along with Trustees Jeffrey Rednick, Jason Klein and Susan Epstein, were sworn in by Rye Brook Judge Anthony Provenzano. Rosenberg, Rednick and Klein were elected in the uncontested elections held March 19, and Epstein was appointed to the board shortly thereafter. Rednick was named deputy mayor for the village. Rye Junior Places 10th In Fencing World Championships RYE, N.Y. -- Rye High School junior Jonah Shainberg was the top U.S. performer in the men's saber event at the Junior and Cadet Fencing World Championships in Croatia. He finished 10th overall. Shainberg is a member of the United States National Fencing Team, and is the number one ranked cadet saber fencer and the fifth-ranked junior saber fencer in the country. Harrison Reaches Agreement On $3.6M Library Renovation HARRISON, N.Y. -- The Town of Harrison has reached an agreement with the Richard E. Halperin Memorial Fund, the Harrison Public Library and the Harrison Public Library Foundation for a $3.6 million renovation to the library. The town will contribute $1.1 million to the renovation, and the Halperin Foundation will contribute another $1.1 million. Funds raised by the Library Foundation and various grants bring the total amount raised to $2.4 million. Some County Legislators Not Sold On Rye Playland Deal RYE, N.Y. -- Several Democratic members of the Westchester Board of Legislators say they are not ready to support the deal between County Executive Rob Astorino and Sustainable Playland Inc. to manage and revamp Rye Playland. Blind Brook Students Invited To NYC Earth Day Event RYE BROOK, N.Y. -- Three Blind Brook High School freshmen have been invited to participate in an Earth Day celebration April 22 in Vanderbilt Hall at Grand Central Terminal. Chloe Greenwald, Adam Hershaft and Amanda Luke were invited to participate as part of the Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision program, a national science competition in which students pick a piece of technology and envision how it will look in 20 years. 'Law & Order: SVU' Films Scenes In Rye RYE, N.Y. -- The cast and crews filmed scenes for the NBC-TV show "Law & Order: SVU" in Rye on Monday. Filming took place in the central business district at Elm Place and Purchase Street. Crews also filmed several scenes at the Coveleigh Club on Stuyvesant Avenue. Production vehicles were staged at the car park between Elm Place and Locust Avenue, as well as at Playland. Filming was scheduled to take place between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. Monday, according to an alert sent out on the town's Nixle alert system.
