Rowayton Named Among America's Happiest Seaside Towns NORWALK, Conn. – Rowayton has been named one of the top 10 "Happiest Seaside Towns" in America by Coastal Living Magazine. You can vote for Rowayton to win through Feb. 28. "This picturesque New England village has lured artists for centuries," reads the magazine's description of Rowayton. Name The Darien Nature Center's New Baby Ferret DARIEN, Conn. - The Darien Nature Center needs your helping in naming its new baby ferret. The baby boy was born Nov. 4. He is calm and quiet and needs the perfect name. Send your ideas to naturalist@dariennaturecenter.org by Jan. 31. Whoever picks the winning name will get to spend 20 minutes with the ferret and the nature center's naturalist. If you'd like to visit him, he lives on the lower level with his big brother, Sneakers. Darien Republicans Fill Committee Vacancy DARIEN, Conn. - The Darien Republican Town Committee has selected Guy Wisinski to fill a vacancy left by former Vice Chair Dick DiDonna, who left to join the Planning and Zoning Commission. Wisinski has lived in Darien for 22 years with his wife and three children. He is a graduate of Plymouth State University and is currently the director of business development for a fine-goods retailer. Metro-North To Operate More Trains For MLK Day Monday FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. - Metro-North will operate more trains than for a normal holiday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day Monday. Trains will operate on a Saturday schedule, with 36 additional trains. Although Monday is a federal holiday and the financial markets are closed, Metro-North will have extra trains in the morning and late afternoon. There will be 14 extra trains on the New Haven Line, with eight inbound to New York City and six outbound. Darien Schools Want Generators For Next Sandy DARIEN, Conn. -- Darien schools are seeking about $1.2 million to install new generators for the next event like Hurricane Sandy. The plan is to buy a new generator for Darien High School, move its current generator to Middlesex Middle School and move the middle school's generator to Ox Ridge Elementary School. The district would then buy generators for Hindley, Holmes and Royle and upgrade the generator at Tokeneke. Norwalk To Host Gun Buyback Feb. 2 NORWALK, Conn. - Norwalk will host a gun buyback event at police headquarters on Feb. 2, Chief Thomas Kulhawik announced Wednesday. "We're hopeful that this will be effective in taking some guns off the street. Even if it's just one or two, that's still something. Those guns can't be stolen, can't get lost or sold to someone else," Kulhawik said. Police will issue VISA gift cards in exchange for functioning guns.
