Darien Elementary Schools Seek New Desks, Chairs DARIEN, Conn. — The price tag would be about $67,580 to replace 538 desks and 290 chairs in the five Darien elementary schools, according to school officials.  The principals of the five schools had requested about $97,000 next year to replace furniture, including desks, chairs, cafeteria tables, bookshelves and other items. It would be the first time that Darien has replaced elementary school furniture in about five years. Darien Players Raise Money For Stamford Cancer Center DARIEN, Conn. - Darien field hockey players presented Stamford Hospital's Women's Breast Center with $5,717.34 raised during "Play for the Cure" week in October. The annual event was held Oct. 6 through 13 and raised awareness for screening and early detection of breast cancer. More than 1,000 youth and high school field hockey players across Fairfield County donned pink shirts and ribbons and held bake sales, shirt sales and other events to raise money for local cancer centers. More than $13,000 was raised during the course of the week.

Thieves Snatch 1,200 Pound Generator From Darien Home DARIEN, Conn. - A generator worth $10,500  and weighing 1,200 pounds was stolen from a home on Pear Tree Point Road in Darien. The theft occurred sometime between Christmas and Jan. 9 while the residents were on vacation in Florida, police said. The unit was removed in a very neat and orderly manner with all electrical and gas connections properly disconnected, according to police.

Police: Rocks Smash Windows of Two Darien Homes DARIEN, Conn. – Rocks were thrown  at the windows of two Darien homes early Saturday morning, police said. A Revere Road resident reported hearing a loud noise  around 12:20 a.m. Later that morning he discovered that a rock had been thrown through a bedroom window and landed on one of the beds, according to the police report.  A resident of nearby Edgerton Street called police at around 12:50 a.m. after his alarm went off. He found that a rock had been thrown at a picture window in the living room, shattering the outer portion. The rock was found outside at the base of the window.

Alan Kirk Gray, the chief administrative officer of the Library, will succeed her as director. “Darien has been a great community to work in.
