Officer James Palmieri has been placed in the school to help build the relationship between students and police. Darien Seniors, Disabled Eligible For Rent Rebates DARIEN, Conn. – Darien senior citizens and disabled people may be eligible for a rent rebate from the state. Applications will be accepted at the Darien Social Services Department until Sept. 15. To be eligible for a rebate, applicants must have resided in Connecticut for one year and be 65 years old as of Dec. 31, 2011 or receive Social Security Disability. Married couples cannot have an income exceeding $39,500 and unmarried people cannot have an income exceeding $32,300. All income, including Social Security, must be reported and documented. Driver Arrested On DWI And Drug Charges In Darien DARIEN, Conn. – A New Jersey woman was arrested in Darien on drug charges and driving while intoxicated after police allegedly found her sleeping behind the wheel of a car. Police received a call from a driver Sunday night that a car was driving erratically on Interstate 95 south. The caller reportedly told police a woman almost swerved the car into the path of a truck before getting off at exit 11 and parking in the lot of the Darien Diner on Post Road. New Canaan Democrats Host National Convention Viewing Party DARIEN, Conn. – The Democratic Town Committees of Darien and New Canaan will host a viewing party Thursday for the Democratic National Convention. The party will coincide with President Barack Obama’s acceptance speech. The viewing party will take place at Upper Crust Bakery and Café in Darien from 8 to 11 p.m. There is no charge to attend, and the event is not a fundraiser. Upper Crust will be offering its evening menu of appetizers, soups, salads and sandwiches, as well as beer, wine and soft drinks.
