Prosecutor Details Son's Alleged Grisly Killing Of New Canaan Mom: ‘Especially Violent’ A Connecticut man accused of killing his mother appeared before a judge in Stamford Superior Court.  Sebastian Van Stockum, 20, is charged with murder after police say he confessed to killing his mother Friday, Oct. 24, inside their home near South Avenue and Gerdes Road in New Canaan. He remains in jail on a $2 million bond.  Van Stockum made his first appearance in court for the alleged murder on Monday. Moped Rider Hit By Minivan Has Died A Week After Strike In West Haven After more than a week in the hospital, a moped driver hit by a minivan in Connecticut has died from his injuries, authorities said. West Haven emergency crews rushed to Forest Road and Derby Avenue around 5 p.m. on Oct. 21 after the van struck the rider entering the intersection.  The impact threw the moped driver into the road. An autopsy ruled Smith died by suicide, authorities announced.  Smith, 21, was last seen on the campus of Vermont's Middlebury College around 9 p.m. on Oct. 17. She was reported missing two days later after her father was unable to reach her, according to Middlebury Police.
