A young man was struck and killed by a Long Island Rail Road train on Monday night, April 20, officials said.
Cameron William Zappolo, 21, was walking where the trains cross Merritts Road in Farmingdale when the train hit him around 7:45 p.m., MTA leaders told Newsday. The train was traveling eastbound on the Ronkonkoma Branch, authorities said.
Zappolo, of Farmingdale, was rushed to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where he was pronounced dead, according to Newsday.

A Long Island man who preyed on vulnerable women and sexually assaulted them at knifepoint was sentenced to decades in prison on Tuesday, April 21, authorities said.
Gary Conyers, a 57-year-old Patchogue resident, was given 27 years to life behind bars, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office said.
