Mom Realizes Dream With New Darien Store Mom Realizes Dream With New Darien Store Mom Realizes Dream With New Darien Store
Mom Realizes Dream With New Darien Store DARIEN, Conn. – Did someone say shopping spree? Well, Darien has one all its own thanks to Lindsay Westbrook. The Darien mom once worked at an investment consulting firm but always wanted to have her own store. This year she achieved her dream when she opened the new clothing boutique Spree. "I love to shop, and I always bought my clothes at department stores. But when I was living in San Francisco I started seeing all these little boutique stores. It seemed like so much fun, but I never thought it was possible to have my own store," she said at the ribbon cutting for Spree Wednesday night. …

Darien Driver Found With Cocaine, Pain Pills DARIEN, Conn. – A Darien man pulled over for allegedly not wearing his seatbelt was arrested on charges of drug possession and intent to sell on Wednesday, Oct. 5. Luis Garete, 29, was driving south on Ledge Road when an officer noticed that he wasn't wearing the seatbelt. After pulling Garete over, the officer detected the odor of marijuana. Garete told the officer he did not have a license. He initially denied having any contraband in the car but later admitted that he had a burnt marijuana roach. He also had a large stash of money in the car. When he was asked to remove his shoes, police …
Darien Resident Calls for 'Yes' Vote on Shuffle Darien Resident Calls for 'Yes' Vote on Shuffle Darien Resident Calls for 'Yes' Vote on Shuffle
Darien Resident Calls for 'Yes' Vote on Shuffle DARIEN, Conn. – The following letter was written by Darien resident Diana Nizolek. I believe that open and candid debate about issues affecting our town is an excellent tool for disseminating factual information and opinions on both sides of the argument. I have watched all of the "Shuffle" discussions, and listened to Mr. Bayne's lengthy "campaign speech" at the recent board meeting. His remarks were clearly a summary of the prepared "talking points" distributed (and obviously used by) his political supporters. In my opinion, his commentary was rife with obfuscation, skewed and/or inaccura…

Darien Shuffle Meets Board of Education's Needs Darien Shuffle Meets Board of Education's Needs Darien Shuffle Meets Board of Education's Needs
Darien Shuffle Meets Board of Education's Needs DARIEN, Conn. – The Board of Education modified its educational specifications for the proposed shuffle project Tuesday night to match the designs that the architects have made for the new facility. The board had outlined its requirements to the architects before any designs were drawn up, but in a few instances the design did not match the specifications. A couple of administrators' offices are smaller than the board sought and the meeting room is bigger than the board said it needed. But the specifications were changed Tuesday night to fit in with the current design. "Once we approve the …

Letter: Fiscal Responsibility Guides Darien Dems DARIEN, Conn. – The following letter was written by Marcia M. Meinerth of 86 Nearwater Lane, Darien. John Lundeen and his fellow candidates for selectmen, David Bayne and Vickie Riccardo, have my complete support. They are astute individuals who understand the importance of financial responsibility as they move to reinstate sensible planning with the goal of assuring that our town is positioned to move forward in the face of challenges. John Lundeen's experience as a budget examiner in both the Carter and Regan administrations provides him the skills Darien needs for the budget analysis and…
Letter: Darien Republicans Tackle the Issues Letter: Darien Republicans Tackle the Issues Letter: Darien Republicans Tackle the Issues
Letter: Darien Republicans Tackle the Issues DARIEN, Conn. – The following letter was written by Bob Bewkes, chairman of the Darien Republican Town Committee. We need to re-elect the incumbent Republican majority on the Board of Selectmen. They have tackled important issues for Darien over the past two years. Now, we are faced with how best to use three facilities: the old library, the Senior Center and Town Hall. Most residents don't realize that roughly 15 percent of Town Hall has been underutilized since it was a school more than 25 years ago. No administration until now has addressed the issue. This team has a plan to efficiently …
Darien Candidates Vow To Attack Flooding Darien Candidates Vow To Attack Flooding Darien Candidates Vow To Attack Flooding
Darien Candidates Vow To Attack Flooding DARIEN, Conn. – As residents who have lived through the storms of 2007 and the recent Hurricane Irene know, flooding can be a big problem in Darien. It is one that both Democratic and Republican candidates for first selectman hope to address once they take office. Democratic candidate John Lundeen criticized the incumbent Republicans for identifying flooding as a major issue but not doing enough to fix it. "Our community has seen a lack of progress on this acknowledged 'flooding crisis' – no updated strategy, no update on the consultants Milone and MacBroom who were hired and completed a stu…
