Letter: Appreciate Darien's Volunteer Leaders Letter: Appreciate Darien's Volunteer Leaders Letter: Appreciate Darien's Volunteer Leaders
Letter: Appreciate Darien's Volunteer Leaders DARIEN, Conn. – The following letter was written by Rachel Martin of Darien. I was saddened to read Jayme Stevenson's statement in last week's Darien Times that, should she become first selectman, those who want to serve alongside of her who can't be in town by 6:30 p.m. need not apply. As a full-time working mother, I am constantly at odds with local activities and school events that I must alter my schedule for. How I spend my time must be done wisely to meet the needs of my children, myself, as well as the company whose paycheck I depend upon. In a town filled with local workers and com…
Two Darien Homes Broken Into Two Darien Homes Broken Into Two Darien Homes Broken Into
Two Darien Homes Broken Into DARIEN, Conn. – Two houses were broken into in Darien last week, according to police reports. One, on Fitch Avenue, was entered Tuesday night, Sept. 22, while two of the residents were home. One was on the second floor with her son between 7:30  and 9 p.m. When she went downstairs, she saw that somebody had cut the screen and entered the house. Nothing appeared to have been taken. Police said the intruder may have realized somebody was in the house and left. Burglars also broke into a house on Nature's Way on Saturday through a second-floor window. The owners were out of the house between 3:…

The total surplus from the program increased 15 percent to $241,466.The increase in expenses was primarily because of the higher enrollment. Questions Raised About Darien 'Shuffle Project' Questions Raised About Darien 'Shuffle Project' Questions Raised About Darien 'Shuffle Project'
Questions Raised About Darien 'Shuffle Project' DARIEN, Conn. – After the architects for the Shuffle Project finished presenting their plans to the Representative Town Meeting Monday night, hands shot up to get questions answered. Some of the concerns included: the costs of the project, whether it would create a senior center or a community center, and when the RTM would need to vote on the project. Holly Schulz from District 1 said she was disturbed by the amount of time and money that had already been put into the project. "It seems like a foregone conclusion at this point," she said. She also took issue with the idea that the town's sen…
Letter: Democrats Will Address Long-Ignored Issues Letter: Democrats Will Address Long-Ignored Issues Letter: Democrats Will Address Long-Ignored Issues
Letter: Democrats Will Address Long-Ignored Issues DARIEN, Conn. – The following letter is from James M. Plutte of Darien.  We are fortunate in Darien to have good and talented citizens running for first selectman and the Board of Selectmen. The question is: Who is best equipped to serve? The major issues facing Darien have been largely ignored by the present administration despite its pledge to resolve them. These include: studying, developing, and implementing an effective flood control plan for Darien's watersheds; developing and implementing a fair and rational affordable housing plan instead of resting on the laurels of a temporary mor…

Letter Calls Darien Dems "a Forward-Looking Team" DARIEN, Conn. – The following letter to the editor is from Darien resident Tony Imbimbo. I have known First Selectman candidate John Lundeen many years, and his ability to work with a wide range of personalities to get things done has always impressed me. Whether acting as president of the Friends of Gorham's Pond, as vice chairman of the Darien Chamber of Commerce, or simply as a fellow dad, he is always intelligent, thoughtful and a true gentleman. At a time when partisanship too often seeps into town decision-making, John Lundeen offers a different way of governing, respectful and genuin…
Letter: Lundeen Will Be Inclusive, Nonpartisan Letter: Lundeen Will Be Inclusive, Nonpartisan Letter: Lundeen Will Be Inclusive, Nonpartisan
Letter: Lundeen Will Be Inclusive, Nonpartisan DARIEN, Conn. – John Lundeen not only has an impressive academic and professional background (master's degree in public policy from Harvard and experience in both government and finance), but he also has a reputation for level-headed, nonpartisan leadership in our community. Those who have worked with him in Friends of Gorham's Pond, Boy Scouts or the Chamber of Commerce always point out his intelligent and calm leadership manner. He also is someone who is not above rolling up his sleeves and doing the work. Over the past few years, the papers have been awash with the shuffle. The discussion…
Letter: Darien Needs a Change in Government Letter: Darien Needs a Change in Government Letter: Darien Needs a Change in Government
Letter: Darien Needs a Change in Government DARIEN, Conn. – It's time for a change in our town — for an open, honest, transparent government. Too often the current administration has left town residents in the dark on important issues — on the senior housing "shuffle," on affordable housing projects and on flood control efforts. The people of this town need direct answers to our questions: How much will this cost? When will it be done? Instead, taxpayers are paying for projects that we are told little about. The slowing down of planning has been the method of choice for dealing with issues that the current administration wished would…
Lundeen Pledges Fiscal Restraint for Darien Lundeen Pledges Fiscal Restraint for Darien Lundeen Pledges Fiscal Restraint for Darien
Lundeen Pledges Fiscal Restraint for Darien DARIEN, Conn. – Fiscal responsibility needs to be restored to Darien, Democratic first selectman candidate John Lundeen says, and the town should say no to excessive spending. In a news conference Monday on the steps of Town Hall, Lundeen criticized his opponents' spending habits and outlined his plans to solve the town's financial problems. "Right here in Darien people are tightening their belts by putting home renovation projects on hold and choosing not to move to new or larger homes," he said. "It's sad that an administration that boasts of 'fiscal restraint' can be so out of touch with …
