The Representative Town Meeting approved the ordinance Monday night, 59-13, after the exception about off-leash hours in parks was discussed and added. Letter: Stevenson Keeps Darien on Track Letter: Stevenson Keeps Darien on Track Letter: Stevenson Keeps Darien on Track
Letter: Stevenson Keeps Darien on Track DARIEN, Conn. – The following letter to the editor is from Joe Pizzarelli of Darien. In a recent issue of Barrons, Connecticut was listed as one of the worst states in the country with regard to fiscal health and overall credit rating (behind three other poorly managed states– Alabama, Arkansas and Colorado). To make matters worse, Gov. Malloy's administration has bucked the belt-tightening trend witnessed across the country with a budget that increases spending and raises taxes, significantly impacting Fairfield County. Connecticut already has the highest percentage of tax-based debt to GDP…

Letter: Lundeen Is "Conscientious and Caring" DARIEN, Conn. – The following letter to the editor was written by Darien resident Nina Miller, Pre-K Director at the Darien Nature Center. My husband Dave and I got to know John Lundeen and his family years ago when our boys were in Boy Scout Troop 53 together. A more conscientious and caring individual is hard to imagine. When John comes up with an idea, he follows through. When he volunteers his time, he puts his all into the effort, from beginning to end. Perhaps most important for the position of First Selectman, John is a pleasure to work with. Our son Coleman adds this: "I got to know…

Darien Sets Hearing on Affordable Housing Zone Darien Sets Hearing on Affordable Housing Zone Darien Sets Hearing on Affordable Housing Zone
Darien Sets Hearing on Affordable Housing Zone DARIEN, Conn. – The public will get to weigh in next month on a proposed "affordable housing floating zone" that would allow any Darien property owner to develop affordable housing. Local developers Christopher and Margaret Stefanoni have proposed the change to the town's zoning regulations. The two have argued for years that there is a serious lack of affordable housing in Darien and feel that floating zones would be an appropriate solution. "Many people have approached me on how they can develop affordable housing on their own property, and this is exactly the vehicle they need," Christop…

Letter: Darien Republicans Have Upheld Promises DARIEN, Conn. – The following letter is from Darien resident Amy Bell. When Dave Campbell, Jerry Nielsen and Jayme Stevenson ran for the Board of Selectmen in 2009, they promised to tackle the challenges facing Darien, and voters responded overwhelmingly in their favor. What I hear now from people in town is that they appreciate the upholding of this pledge, especially concerning thornier town issues which seemed to defy resolution in the past. Successes over the last two years include achieving an affordable housing moratorium, restoring the fireworks tradition, obtaining a practical compr…
