Fire Guts Home, Kills Family Dog A fire ripped through a house at 16 Sunset Road late Wednesday night, leaving the interior ruined and a dog dead. According to Darien Fire Marshall Robert Buch, the blaze was likely the result of a fire that the owners had made in their fireplace earlier in the evening. "We're not sure at this time whether something fell out of the fireplace or some sparks caught on fire," Buch said. Buch said the owners woke up to the smell of smoke and opened the bedroom door to find the upstairs hallway filled with smoke. They then exited the house. "The house did not have smoke detectors. They were for…

What's the Difference? Voters Go Own Way The election saw a shift from Democrats to Republicans in many states across the country. Darien voters came out overwhelmingly to support Republican candidates, but in Connecticut as a whole, the Democrats still came out on top. State Rep. Terrie Wood and State Sen. Bob Duff, who both won re-election Tuesday, said that these voting patterns have to do with partisan politics. "People tend to get locked into 'their' party, and fail to look at the qualifications of individual candidates," Wood, a Republican, said. She said this led to people vote for Democratic candidates even though she belie…

Commission Chairman Fred Conze asked for a motion to continue the meeting Nov. 23, after the Stefanonis submit a traffic study by Nov. 16. The motion passed unani…
