James Blake's Tennis Career Comes To A Close At U.S. Open WESTPORT, Conn. – James Blake went down fighting in his final singles match at the U.S. Open on Wednesday. Blake had previously announced he would retire after the annual event, and Ivo Karlovic ended his career with a 6-7 (2), 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (2) 7-6 (2) victory. Blake, 33, a Yonkers native, lives is Westport and is a Fairfield High School graduate. He reached 24 finals and ranked as high as No. 4 in the world. Richard I. Elliott, 84, Former Croton-on-Hudson Resident CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- Richard I. Elliott, 84, Dunmore, Pa., formerly of Croton-on-Hudson, died on Aug. 23. Born in the Bronx, he was the son of Irwin and Margaret Garvey Elliott, and resided in Croton-on-Hudson until retirement. He attended Croton-Harmon High School, served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War stationed in Germany, and pursued an education in engineering. Elliott was an accomplished boat builder and inventor and prior to retirement was employed by Marathon Enterprises. Hoyt, Bell Race Off With Titles In 5K In New Canaan NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Kevin Hoyt of Newtown and Roland Bell of New York raced off with the top prizes Friday at the All Out For Autism 5k in New Canaan. The race sponsored by New Balance New Canaan featured 369 finishers and 60 more in the children’s race. Hoyt won in 16:05, followed by Alan Wells of New Canaan in 16:08. Easton's Chris Thomas Wins Triathlon In Bridgeport EASTON, Conn. – Easton’s Chris Thomas won the Park City Mossman Triathlon Sunday for his second victory in as many weekends. Thomas, the owner/director of Personal Training Professionals in Southport, also won a sprint triathlon on Aug. 17 in Laconia, N.H.
