Betty Cottin Miller, 88, Former Peekskill Resident PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Betty Ruth Cottin Miller, a former resident of Peekskill and Mamaroneck, died on Aug.  2 in Brighton, Mass. She was 88. Ms. Miller was the wife of Dr. Bernard S. Miller, the former principal at Peekskill High School. She was also an educator, working as a longtime English teacher at Mamaroneck High School. Sleepy Hollow Native Adam Badeau Witnessed Civil War Surrender SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. -- Adam Badeau, a resident of Sleepy Hollow, was an eyewitness to history when Gen. Robert E. Lee surrendered to Gen. Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House in 1865 and later served as a confidante to President Grant. He later was a U.S. consul-general in London and Havana.  In his final years, he was the author of several military history books. Westport Team Wins 10/11 State Softball Championship WESTPORT, Conn. – The Westport Little League's 10- and 11-year-old softball team defeated Enfield, 16-0, to win the state championship last week in Newington. It is the first Little League title for the Westport softball program. Westport dominated Enfield in the winners’ bracket final, 14-7, after opening the tournament with a 13-3 win over Seymour. In the championship game, Westport used eight hits and 10 walks to win via the mercy rule.
