Norwalk Little League Announces All-Stars NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk Little League selected its All-Star teams to represent the league in the upcoming District 1 Tournament. Norwalk’s 11- and 12-year-old All-Star team includes Alex Canevari, Jack Cocchia, Kyle Dobson, Jimmy Evans, Jack Fitzpatrick, Sebastien Longo, Jack Matthews, Max Pomponi, Shane Popkins, Donnie Shaffer, James Stefanowicz, Scott Whalen and Peter Young. Westhill Runner Is Gatorade State Player Of The Year STAMFORD, Conn. – Westhill High School’s Claire Howlett was named the Connecticut Girls Track and Field Player of the Year by Gatorade on Wednesday. Howlett, a junior, won the State Open in the 1,600 and 3,200 earlier this month. Her time of 10:20.03 set a state record, which was subsequently broken by Hannah DeBalsi of Staples High School at the New England Championships. Howlett set a state record in the 5,000 meters last weekend and finished fifth at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals. Stamford Marathoner Runs In Vermont To Help Greenwich's Family Centers GREENWICH, Conn. -- When Stamford’s Bill Brucker, communication director of Greenwich-based Family Centers, stood on the starting line at last month’s KeyBank Vermont City Marathon, he was greeted with 35-degree temperatures, driving rain and wind. Despite the unfavorable conditions, Brucker completed the marathon’s 26.2-mile course and raised $3,600 for Family Centers. For the second consecutive year, Brucker raced in marathons to raise much-needed funds for the organization. Mile Race In New Canaan Supports Scholarship For Athlete NEW CANAAN, Conn. --  Tim Milenkevich and Elizabeth Perry were the men’s and women’s winners at The New Balance Mile on Saturday in New Canaan. Milenkevich won in 4:40, followed by Alan Wells in 4:47 and David Hunt in 4:56. Perry won in 6:04, followed by Emily Wood in 6:09 and Sara Enders in 6:18. The New Canaan High School girls track team supported the race, and the top three finishers in the women’s division were all New Canaan High athletes. Money raised in the race will go toward a $1,000 scholarship for an athlete chosen by New Canaan coaches.

Robert Hartline, 62, of Wallingford died after suffering a heart arrhythmia during the opening leg of last year’s race at Sherwood Island. Westhill's Claire Howlett 5th At National Track Meet STAMFORD, Conn. – Westhill High School junior Claire Howlett wrapped up a track season to remember with a fifth place finish in the 5,000 meters at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in North Carolina. Howlett ran 16:45.56, smashing the state record. The old mark of 17:47.16 was set in 2011. In a brilliant two-week stretch, Howlett set personal best times in the 1,600, 3,200 and 5K.
