Xtreme Cheer Team Qualifies For World Competition NORWALK, Conn. – Xtreme Cheer’s Inferno earned a berth in the Cheerleading Worlds Competition with a strong performance last weekend at the Reach the Beach competition in Ocean City, Md. Xtreme’s teams are comprised of members from Norwalk and Hopewell Junction, N.Y. Inferno is a Level 5 team consisting of athletes ages 15-and-up. The team will compete in worlds April 27 to 29 in Orlando, Fla. The team is coached by Xtreme owners Dana and Mike Talbot. Mike is also a member of Inferno. Norwalk Riptide 12U Softball Wins Opening Tournament NORWALK, Conn. –  The Norwalk Athletic Association Riptide 12-and-under softball team won its opening tournament, the Easton/Redding Invitational. Norwalk earned the top prize Sunday in a field that included Redding/Easton, the Ridgefield Rebels, Brewster Rockets and Fairfield Fury. After going 2-1 in pool play, Norwalk defeated the Fury, 6-2, in the semifinals, and then beat Ridgefield, 2-0, to win the championship. 8 Runners From New Canaan Finish Boston Marathon This story was updated with names of New Canaan runners from the Boston Athletic Association website: NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Eight runners from New Canaan finished Monday’s Boston Marathon before it was halted due to two explosions near the finish line. Runners from New Canaan who finished were Thomas Beusse, Michael Buscher, Melisssa Cutler, Rob Fryer, Larry Ikard, David Keefe, Thomas Robey and Nicholas Sykes. No other runners from New Canaan were apparently on the course when it was halted.

Weston, Easton Runners Finish Boston Marathon WESTON, Conn. – One runner from Weston finished the Boston Marathon and another was apparently on the course when it was ended Monday by two explosions near the finish line, according to the race website. Pat Marafiote finished in 3:59:50, about five minute before the explosion. Emily Locher surpassed the halfway mark, but did not finish, according to results on the Boston Marathon website.
