And Saturday he's hoping his Crusaders can win their second city title since he became head coach in 2009. Stokes, whose Crusaders (4-0) play Stamford (2-2) at  1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity, was named the Lou Rettino High School Football Coach of the Week by the New York Giants. Westport Youth Football Game To Honor Late Coach WESTPORT, Conn. – The Westport Police Athletic League will play a football game in memory of former coach Matt McCoy on Saturday at Staples High School. A ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. to honor McCoy, a Westport resident and longtime PAL coach. McCoy, 43, died last November of cancer. He also coached soccer, baseball and basketball in Westport. He was a former football player at the University of Michigan. The ceremony will be followed by an eighth-grade game between teams from Westport and Darien. McCoy’s son, Ari, is a member of the Westport team.

The Blue Wave host Staples in a highly anticipated match up Oct. 27, but coach Rob Trifone’s team can’t look that far ahead. “We need to take it one week at a time,’’ Trifone said after last week’s 41-6 rout of Danbury. “We’re on the road for the next two weeks, and that’s never easy. Darien Woman Ties Field Hockey Marks At Wesleyan DARIEN, Conn. – Every time Darien’s Averill Roberto turned around, the ball was on her field hockey stick for Wesleyan University in a game last Saturday against Bates. The senior forward made the opportunities count. Roberto scored four goals and tied two school records as Wesleyan won, 5-1. Roberto, who also had an assist, tied the Wesleyan record for most goals in a game and most points in game. All of her goals came in the second half. Longtime Greenwich Triathlete Heads To Ironman GREENWICH, Conn. – A broken collarbone cost Joanne Dondero, of White Plains, N.Y., a shot at the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii last year. The 65-year-old member of the Greenwich Triathlon Club fought back to earn a return trip this year for her eighth Ironman.
