Fairfield Runner Shines In College Debut FAIRFIELD, Conn. – You could tell the runner on the Virginia team was Fairfield native Connor Rog by his signature headband. And his fleet feet. Rog had a terrific debut with the University of Virginia cross country team, finishing 17th in the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational last Saturday. Competing against several nationally-ranked schools, Rog finished in 24:38.6 on the 8-kilometer (4.97 mile) course. Rog was Virginia’s fourth finisher as the Cavaliers finished third behind nationally ranked Oklahoma (40 points) and Arkansas (61). Rog, who ran at Fairfield Prep, was also the fastest …

Darien 8th-Grade Football Teams Surge To Top DARIEN, Conn. – Two Darien teams in the Fairfield County Football League that went undefeated in regular season play last year as seventh graders are undefeated again this year as eighth-graders. Darien White, coached by Rich Joyce, went 11-0 last season and won the league championship. Darien Blue, coached by Jay Hardison, went undefeated during the regular season last fall before losing to Fairfield, 18-13, in the semifinals of the league playoffs. Norwalk River Rowers Stage Fundraiser NORWALK, Conn. – Members of the Norwalk River Rowing Association hit the streets instead of the water last weekend in a fund-raiser for the Matthew Zucker Fund. Rowers assembled rowing machines at Darien Sports Shop, Wilton Village Market and Stop & Shop on Main Avenue in Norwalk. The rowers completed 10,000 meters apiece, and the goal for the club was to exceed one million meters. Rowers also encouraged shoppers to try the rowing machines, called ergs.
