New Canaan Runner Takes Third At National Meet NEW CANAAN, Conn. – It is easy to miss the track accomplishments of New Canaan’s James Randon, who competes for a private school in Massachusetts. At two of the biggest meets of the year, however, the senior has caught the attention of more than a few track enthusiasts. Randon finished third last Friday in the one mile run in the Emerging Elite race at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, N.C. Leopards Win Majors Division in Westport Softball WESTPORT, Conn. – The Leopards defeated the Bobcats, 13-3, to win the Major Division in Westport Little League softball. The Leopards defeated the Pumas, 10-5, in the semifinals. The team finished 10-2 and closed the season on a four-game winning streak. It also won nine of its final 10 games. Team members include Kelley Moran, Emily Lomanto, Marnie Adelkopf, Liz Lomanto, Alexandra Birk, Lara Dimick, Gillian Birk, Willa Grimes, Sophie Betar, Ellen Dalen, Bryn Stephens and Tess Rubin. The team was coached by Adam Adelkopf and Harold Birk.

Triathlete Dies Day After Being Hospitalized During Westport Race WESTPORT, Conn. – The triathlete who was hospitalized Sunday at the Sherwood Island Sprint Triathlon died Monday at Norwalk Hospital. Robert Hartline, 62, of Wallingford, was competing in the event as a member of the Wilton-based Team in Training. According to an obituary provided by Yalesville Funeral Home, Hartline, who died Monday, was a U.S Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War and was an accomplished runner, having competed in the Boston Marathon in the 1980s. He is survived by his wife Patricia, his mother, Dorothy and two sons. The cause of death was not included in the obituary. Hartline …

New Canaan Crew Repeats National Regatta Victory NEW CANAAN, Conn. – The cast may change, but for the seventh straight year the rowers from New Canaan Crew returned from the U.S. Youth Nationals with a medal. Just like last year, this year’s squad earned gold. The team of Jonathon Rosow, Alex Buck, Peter Tortora and Graham Mink won the Men’s Youth 4x Grand Final at the national meet earlier this month in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Stew's Wins AAA Division in Norwalk Little League NORWALK, Conn. – Stew Leonard’s defeated the Eagles, 6-3, Monday to win the AAA Division championship in the Norwalk Little League. Cooper Grillo retired nine out of 10 batters in the final three innings and had three RBI to lead Stew’s. Daniel Miller pitched the first three innings and allowed three unearned runs.  Stew’s scored one in the first on an RBI by Grillo, and scored four in the second. Easton Softball Team Wins District 1 Crown EASTON, Conn. – The Easton Police PBA Green Goblins softball team won the District 1 Little League Tournament of Champions title Sunday with a 9-3 victory over Darien at the Redding Boys and Girls Club. The girls finished the season with an 8-1-1 record, their only loss a 14-13 setback on May 6 to Criscuolo Design Build in league play. The Green Goblins also beat Ridgefield in the semifinals, 10-6. Fairfield U11 Boys' Soccer Wins Premier League FAIRFIELD, Conn – The Fairfield-based UAC Revolution Boys U-11 team took first place in the Connecticut Junior Soccer Association Spring Premier League following a 1-1 tie with undefeated South Central Connecticut.   Joshua Smith scored the Revolution’s one goal on a blistering shot in the second half.  Game MVP and team goalie Aidan Trabuco played well, as did Matthew Dookie, Jeffrey Ramirez and Andrew Restrepo.  The Revolution ended its undefeated season with 19 goals for and six against in its six games. Easton Man Wins Triathlon a 6th Straight Year EASTON, Conn. – Race organizers might consider a name change for the Pat Griskus Olympic Triathlon. Over the past six years, Easton’s Chris Thomas has owned the thing. Thomas, 40, won the race for the sixth straight year Saturday in Middlebury. He finished in 2:01:58, and won by 4:38 over runner-up Alex Libin of Iowa City, Iowa. The race consisted of a one-mile swim, a 40-kilometer (24.8 mile) bike ride and a 10K (6.2 mile) run.
