And Anton Comizio did not disappoint his old buddy. Comizio, who went to Western Connecticut State University with McCray, delivered a powerful message to girls track and field athletes from Staples, Danbury and Ridgefield before Monday’s meet. Greens Farms Girls Tennis Nets Big Win WESTPORT, Conn. – The Greens Farms Academy girls tennis team picked up a big victory on Monday with a 5-2 decision over Kingswood-Oxford. The Dragons improved to 6-2 on the season. Caitlin Rummelsburg and Hayley Sanzone won 6-0, 6-0 at third and fourth singles for Greens Farms. Nick Lombardi scored the winning run to break a tie in the top of the sixth, and Sam Lombino retired the side in order in the bottom of the inning to preserve the victory. Staples Girls Track Team Wins Division Title WESTPORT, Conn. – Staples High's girls track team won the opening 4 x 100 relay and the meet-ending 4 x 400 relay. The Wreckers did a lot of good things in between, too, to win their first Fairfield County Interscholastic Conference division championship since 2003. Staples defeated Danbury, 85-60, and Ridgefield, 89-56, to sweep the tri-meet Monday afternoon. The victory raises Staples’ record to 7-0. Staples captured the Central Division title with the sweep. Westhill Runners Take Top 3 at Track Meet STAMFORD, Conn. – Westhill High School distance runners Sam Lagasse and Claire Howlett had top three finishes Saturday at the Irv Black Invitational at Veterans Stadium in New Britain. Lagasse took second in the 3,200 meters, while Howlett was third in the girls 3,200. Howlett also finished seventh in the 1,600. In the boys 3,200, Lagasse ran 9:39.71 and trailed only Dharan Velasquez of Capital Prep, who ran 9:31.00. Howlett ran 11:22.19 in the girls 3,200, which Glastonbury’s Reid Watson won in 11:08.89. Staples Athletes Shine at Weekend Meets WESTPORT, Conn. – Henry Wynne won the 1,600 at the Irv Black Relays and pole-vaulter Lexie Schachne had a strong performance in two meets to highlight performances by Staples track and field athletes. Wynne ran the event in 4:14.30, followed by Clark Shurtleff of Amity in 4:14.38. Wynne’s winning time is the best in the state this spring, and 46th in the country. Sports Writers Honor Fairfield County Standouts FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Soccer legend Kristine Lilly, Trinity Catholic basketball coach Mike Walsh and the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference were honored Sunday at the 71st Gold Key Dinner hosted by the Connecticut Sports Writers’ Alliance. Norwalk Cal Ripken Celebrates Opening Day NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk Cal Ripken Baseball celebrated opening day Saturday at Fox Run School.
