Local Runners Win 5-Mile Race in Darien DARIEN, Conn. – Darien’s Tom Holland and Greenwich’s Kristen Oddi won the men’s and women’s divisions in Sunday’s inaugural YW Race Against Racism for Empowering Women in Darien. Holland cruised through the 5-mile course in 31:12, followed by Brad Wellington in 31:43 and Daniel Blauin in 33:43. Wellington and Blauin are from Darien. Oddi's time was 36:23, followed by Gracia Robinson of Norwalk in 39:6 and Amy Rebbechi of Darien in 39:14. There were 65 finishers, including 45 women. The race was sponsored by the YWCA Darien/Norwalk. Complete results are available online.

Local Runners Win Westport Minuteman Race WESTPORT, Conn. — Norwalk’s Noredine Abdelfatah won the men’s division and Stamford’s Sharon Lemberger led the women’s division in Sunday’s Minuteman 10K road race at Compo Beach. Ansonia’s Tom Milenkevich and Bridgeport’s Emily LaSala were the men’s and women’s winners, respectively, in a 5K race. Children’s races were also run by Peak Performance Sports Camps. Sunny skies, cool temperatures and a slight breeze greeted runners on near-perfect morning for running in one of Fairfield County’s most enduring races. Cranbury Baseball Collects for Players in Uganda NORWALK, Conn. – Cranbury Community Athletic Association will collect baseball gloves for the Gloves For Uganda program Saturday at Cranbury Elementary School beginning at 8:15 a.m. The program was started by Norwalk resident Marian Edvardsen to provide much needed baseball equipment for children in Uganda. Norwalk Youth Basketball Slates Tryouts NORWALK, Conn. — The Norwalk Youth Basketball Association is holding tryouts for the 2012 Fairfield County Basketball League summer season and invites all Norwalk boys currently in grades 4-7 to attend.  Three teams will represent Norwalk Youth in league play. Norwalk Woman Earns College Lacrosse Honor NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk’s Danica Delia, a senior on the Roger Williams University women’s lacrosse team, earned first team honors in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. Delia earned all-league honors for the second straight year. She ranked fourth in the conference in assists per game (1.80) and ninth in points per game (4.07). Westhill Star Wins Prestigious Rioux Award STAMFORD, Conn. – Allie Souza never met Allyson Rioux, but feels as if she’s known the former Westhill athlete her whole life. And in a way, she has. Souza, a three-sport standout at Westhill, was named the winner of the Allyson Rioux Award, which recognizes the most outstanding high school senior female athlete in Stamford. New President Fine-Tunes Darien Little League DARIEN, Conn. – David Ott has a big job ahead of him as the incoming president of Darien Little League. Big as in 1,314 players, 126 teams, and programs for boys, girls and Challenger athletes. It is the largest Little League in the nation, and Ott faces the task of running it.
