Weston Swimmers End Regular Season With a Win WESTON, Conn. – Weston High swim coach Tom Grace expected the Trojans to top New Milford in Wednesday’s last regular-season meet. But he did not expect it to be so hard. The Trojans won, 101-85, to finish 7-3 on the season. Weston held a slim 73-67 lead after New Milford won the 200-freestyle relay. Weston Earns No. 6 Seed for League Playoffs WESTON, Conn. – Weston earned the No. 6 seed for the South-West Conference tournament and will meet No. 3 Notre Dame of Fairfield in Saturday’s quarterfinals at Masuk High School in Monroe. Weston finished the regular season 12-8 overall and 8-6 in the conference after beating Bunnell, 63-61, Tuesday. The Trojans won their last four games to reach the playoffs, including a 62-59 win against top-seeded Immaculate. Young Wilton Wrestlers Medal at State Qualifier WILTON, Conn. – Wilton Youth Wrestling won two gold and five silver medals in the Connecticut Sate Qualifiers tournament last weekend in Milford. Hans Forland and Will Litton took home gold medals for Wilton. Patrick Ciquera, Michael Longo, Travis Longo, Max Mannino, and visiting wrestler Nicholas Vranos won silver medals.  Finn McGovern and Jay Spaulding also qualified to move onto the state championships, which are scheduled for this weekend in New Haven. Staples Football Players, Moms Support SpinOdyssey WESTPORT, Conn. - SpinOdyssey co-chair and Westport resident Patty Kondub joined the Staples High School football team to help promote SpinOdyssey 2012, the 6-hour indoor cycling and fitness event that supports American Cancer Society breast cancer research and the Whittingham Cancer Center of Norwalk Hospital.  Football team members have volunteered at the event for the past several years. Weston Diver Sets School Record WESTON, Conn. – Weston High School’s Dean Rapp set a new school record in diving as the boys swim team dropped a 97-86 meet to Watertown Tuesday. Rapp totaled 251.75 points for the new record. Toby Gerroll finished second for the Trojans. Notre Dame Basketball Salutes Seniors FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Notre Dame of Fairfield honored seniors on its boys basketball team prior to Tuesday's game against Brookfield. Arkel Miles, Nnamdi Gogoh and Thomas Allen were honored along with members of the school's cheerleading and spirit squads. The boys basketball team defeated Brookfield, 67-64, in the final regular season game. The Lancers open the South-West Conference tournament as the No. 3 seed. The tournament pairings have not yet been finalized.

Barlow Girls Fall to Pomperaug in Basketball EASTON, Conn. – Pomperaug raced past Joel Barlow, 65-44, in the semifinals of the South-West Conference girls basketball tournament Tuesday night in Weston. The sixth-seeded Falcons (16-8) will now await the Class M state tournament. Pomperaug (20-2) advances to play Lauralton Hall in the championship game on Thursday. Brittney Dumas scored 17 points to lead Barlow, and Drew Bartro added 10. Pomperaug led  11-8 at the end of the first quarter, but took control with a 19-6 second half explosion to take a 30-14 lead. Pomperaug defeated Barlow, 64-56, during the regular season.

Weston Boys Beat Bunnell, Earn Playoff Bid WESTON, Conn. – Lyle Mitchell scored 16 points, including a putback with eight seconds left in the game, as Weston stunned Bunnell, 63-61, in a South-West Conference boys basketball game Tuesday in Stratford. The Trojans finish the regular season 12-8 overall and 8-6 in the conference. They will play in the first-round of the conference tournament Saturday. Final seedings for the tournament have not yet been determined. Troy Flynn added 14 points and Max Molinsky had 10 for Weston. Mitchell also had 14 rebounds while Molinsky dished out five assists.
