Stamford Students Race at Cove Island STAMFORD, Conn. – The Scofield Magnet School boys, the Turn of River girls and the Bennett Cancer Center were the big winners Tuesday at the Stamford Middle School cross country championships Tuesday at Cove Island Park. Mayco Ortiz of Turn of River and Francesca DiSimone of Scofield were the individual winners in the 1.6-mile race, which included over 230 runners from seven schools. Basketball Tryouts Planned Set a Carver Center NORWALK, Conn. – The Carver Youth Basketball League will hold tryouts for its boys teams on Saturday, Nov. 5. Tryouts for boys in grades 4-6 will be held from noon-1:15 p.m. Players in grades 7 and 8 will try out from 1:15-2:30 p.m. Players should sign up at the Carver Center weekdays from 1-7 p.m. The fee is $65. Connecticut Boat Club Finds Gold in Philadelphia FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Connecticut Boat Club rowers went 5-for-5 last weekend at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia, winning one gold, three silver and one bronze medal in the five races it entered. CBC, based in Norwalk and including rowers from throughout Fairfield County, won the 17-and-under 4+. The Varsity 4+, Varsity 8 and Non-Varsity 8 finished second.
