Warde Girls Fall in League Soccer Final Warde Girls Fall in League Soccer Final
Warde Girls Fall in League Soccer Final FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield Warde’s girls soccer team pressed throughout the final half for the game-tying goal in Saturday’s league championship game against Greenwich. The Mustangs never could find the net, however, and lost 1-0 in their first title game appearance. “That’s the way they played all year,’’ Warde coach Tom Cunningham said. “They play with confidence, with poise and the opportunities will come. They worked hard for the entire game. They never let down, not for a second.” Emma Christie scored the game-winner for Greenwich with 18:07 left in the first half. The No. 4 Cardinal…

as League Soccer Champs GREENWICH, Conn. – One league title was nice for Greenwich girls soccer coach Danny Simpson. When the Cardinals won a second straight championship with a 1-0 win over Fairfield Warde on Saturday, he had difficulty finding the right words. “It hasn’t sunk in yet,’’ Simpson said. “When we started seven years ago, we never made the FCIAC and only made states twice.” Emma Christie scored the game’s only goal with 18:07 left in the first half. Christie was unmarked in the box about seven yards away from the Warde goal when she converted a sweet pass from Amanda Onofrio for the score. The second…
