Fairfield Prep Standout Commits to North Carolina FAIRFIELD, Conn. --  Fairfield Prep senior Connor Rog runner made news on and off  the cross country course on Tuesday. On the same day that he won the State Open championship, Rog also announced his decision to attend the University of North Carolina. Rog is a two-time Class LL champion in cross country. He finished as the runner-up in last year’s State Open. His victory Tuesday helped the Jesuits win their first team title since 1997. Fairfield Cheerleaders Win Regional Semifinal FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield Giants Junior Midget cheerleading team won first place in the regional semifinals. The cheerleaders will now compete for the New England Regional Championship on Nov. 19 in Worcester, Mass. The New England winner advances to the national Pop Warner Cheerleading Championships at Disney's Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla., next month. The Fairfield Giants will be competing in their third regional final in the last five years.

Norwalk U11 Girls Reach State Tournament Final NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk Blue Thunder 11-and-under girls soccer team defeated the Suffield Wildcats, 3-0, to reach the finals of the Connecticut Cup. The Blue Thunder will play Bethel Sunday at Tunxis Meade Park in Farmington at 12:30. The Blue Thunder are members of the Norwalk Junior Soccer Association. Fairfield Giants Mitey Mites Win Championship FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield Giants Mitey Mites completed their season with a 18-12 victory over Shelton in the Mitey Mite Jamboree championship at Sullivan Field. Shelton marched to the Fairfield 5-yard line on its opening drive before the Giants held. The Giants went right back the other way, moving 75 yards in five plays to the Shelton 20 behind the strong running of Calvin Caoine, Nick Morris, Mike Innaimo and Finn Doneland. The Dragons will play at Greenwich Academy in Wednesday’s semifinals. Greens Farms scored the winning goal in the 74th minute on a header by Caroline Vanacore. The game scores were 22-25, 25-12, 26-24 and 25-21. The victory sends the Dragons to Wednesday’s semifinals at top-seeded Greenwich Academy.
