Staples Water Polo Nets Overtime Win WESTPORT, Conn. – Staples' Nick Yu scored the game-winning goal on an assist from co-captain David Katter as the Wreckers defeated Hopkins, 13-12, in a water polo contest Saturday. In perhaps the most complete game Staples has played in its four years in the sport, all six starters had at least one goal, and eight players had assists. Staples, Warde Kick to Soccer Tie WESTPORT, Conn. – Staples’ boys soccer team came away with a scoreless tie against Fairfield Warde in the Wreckers’ homecoming game at Loeffler Field. The Wreckers enter an important week of play in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference with a  7-1-3 record. Staples Beats Danbury to Stay Unbeaten WESTPORT, Conn. – Nick Kelly ran for two touchdowns to lead Staples to a 31-12 win over Danbury in the Wreckers’ home opener. Danbury built a 21-0 lead entering the final quarter before the Hatters scored a pair of touchdowns, including an 89-yard kickoff return by James Harrington. Staples took its early lead Saturday on a 38-yard run by Joey Zelkowitz, a 4-yard run by Kelly and Jack Massie’s 1-yard run. Kelly added a 9-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Runners Have a Lot of Weekend Options FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – There are variety and abundance for runners this weekend as they lace up their sneakers for races in Fairfield County and beyond. There are two races Saturday in Fairfield County. The Nevah Surendah to Parkinsons 5K goes off at 9 a.m. in Westport. Also at 9 a.m., Georgeown hosts the Strength for Sydney 5K.
