Saugatuck Rowers Shine in Shelton Races WESTPORT, Conn. – Saugatuck Rowing Club won two races and finished second in five others in a strong performance last weekend at the Head of the Housatonic Regatta at Indian Wells State Park in Shelton. The highlight for Saugatuck was its victory in the Boys Varsity 8+. The crew included Greg Zales of New Canaan, Jake Esse of Greens Farms Academy, Jake Petterson, John Morrison, Jeff Monahan and Will Ritter of Westport, Chris Babinec of Weston, Duncan Campbell of Easton and Cameron Yates of Fairfield. Grinalds is a finalist for the Junior Rower of the Year award. Now a freshman at Harvard, Grinalds rowed on the Junior Champion U.S. Women’s 4-, won the U.S. Nationals Junior 2-, and won a bronze medal in the U.S. Youth National Women’s 8+. Fairfield Pee Wees Win 5th Straight Game FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield Giants Pee Wee team won its fifth straight game with a 32-0 rout of the Amity Spartans. The victory clinched a playoff berth for the Pee Wees. Philip Vlandis returned the opening kickoff for an apparent touchdown, but a penalty negated the play. It only slowed Fairfield temporarily, as Brian Azarian ran through a large hole for a touchdown. Blake Gottlieb and Dylan Annunziato delivered key blocks to help spring Azarian. County Football, Baseball Coaching Legend Dies FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Longtime Fairfield County football coach Jerry McDougall, who was best known for his football and baseball  teams at Trumbull High School, died Tuesday. McDougall also was the head coach at the former Central Catholic High School in Norwalk and was an assistant at St. Luke’s. According to the FCIAC.net website, McDougall was 75. Other reports listed McDougall as 76 or 77. Fairfield Warde Runner Finishes Season Unbeaten FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield Warde senior Harry Warnick set a course record to wrap up an undefeated season against Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference competition Tuesday at the season-ending quad meet at Tod’s Point in Greenwich.
