Norwalk/McMahon Swimmers Continue Perfect Start NORWALK, Conn. – In a meet that came down to the final race, the Norwalk/Brien McMahon girls swim team improved to 5-0 with a nail-biting 97-86 win over the Westhill/Stamford co-op swim team Thursday at Norwalk High School. The Norwalk team needed to finish first and third in the 400 freestyle relay, the final race, to secure the victory, and it did just that. Norwalk/McMahon overcame a deficit midway through the meet largely with its relay teams, as its depth and a boisterous home crowd helped the team continue its perfect start. New Boys Hoop Program Set to Tip Off in Norwalk NORWALK, Conn. – A new travel basketball group for Norwalk boys will tip off this winter in the Fairfield County Basketball League. Teams for grades 5-8 will be formed later this month and begin play in early December. Greens Farms Blanked in Field Hockey WESTPORT, Conn. – Hopkins scored two second-half goals to defeat Greens Farms Academy, 2-0, in a girls field hockey game Wednesday. GFA struggled to get offensive momentum as Hopkins crowded the midfield the entire game. GFA midfielders Madison Leonard (Westport), a junior captain, and sophomores Maggie Sherin (Weston) and Hayley Holzinger (Norwalk) worked hard against a talented Hopkins squad. Freshman goalie Jenny Ross of Darien had 11 saves. GFA hopes to rebound next week when it visits league rival St. Luke's.

Greens Farms Girls Win Shootout vs. Westover WESTPORT, Conn. – Caroline Vanacore scored two goals Wednesday to help lift Greens Farms Academy to a 5-3 victory over Westover School. After Westover scored an early goal, senior Emily Caldwell, in her first game back from an injury, took a pass from senior captain Nora Flaherty of Norwalk and fired a beautiful shot into the corner of the goal for a 1-1 tie. Greens Farms Boys Soccer Ties Hamden Hall WESTPORT, Conn. – Greens Farms Academy’s boys soccer team battled Hamden Hall to a 1-1 tie Wednesday. Junior Spencer Hartig (Riverside) scored an unassisted goal 20 minutes into the first half to give GFA the lead. Hamden Hall scored the equalizer nine minutes into the second half. Both teams continued to press for the winner, trading shots and corners until the final whistle. Junior goalkeeper Ryan Friend (Darien) made several tough saves to preserve the tie. GFA, 3-4-1, hosts Fairchester Athletic Association rival St. Luke’s on Tuesday.
