Tryouts Planned for Norwalk Youth Basketball Teams NORWALK, Conn. — Tryouts for the Norwalk Youth Basketball Association teams will be held later this month. Tryouts for boys in fifth and sixth grade will be held Oct. 19 and Oct. 26 at West Rocks Middle School from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Registration begins at 6 p.m. For boys in seventh and eighth grades, tryouts will be held Oct. 21 and Oct. 26 at Roton Middle School from 6:15 to 8 p.m. Registration begins at 6 p.m. Informational fliers will be distributed at tryouts. Fairfield Prep Runner Wins Wickham Race FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield Prep senior Connor Rog won the Wickham Park Invitational on Saturday in Manchester, covering the 5k course in 15:41. Rog won by a comfortable 42 seconds over Muad Hrezi of Naugatuck, who finished in 16:23. Wills Rooney of Greens Farms took third in 16:41. Prep finished sixth in the team scoring with 158 points. Darien won the race, followed by Xavier and Watertown. Westhill Runners Race to Top 10 at Wickham Park STAMFORD, Conn. – Several Westhill High School cross country runners had outstanding performances Saturday at the Wickham Park Invitational in Manchester. Sam Lagasse finished seventh in the boys seeded race, while Claire Howlett was fifth in the girls seeded race. Alison Ambrosecchio was third in the freshmen race. Lagasse, a senior, ran 17:05 on the 5k course. Patrick Dibble of Manchester won the race in 16:43. Howlett, a promising sophomore, ran 20:35. Alyssa Brehler of Griswold won the race in 19:41. Darien Boys Win Wickham Invitational DARIEN, Conn. – Darien High School's boys cross country team established itself as a team to watch this year when it defeated Danbury in a Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference race earlier this season. On Saturday, the Blue Wave made the rest of the state take notice. Darien won the boys championship division at the Wickham Park Invitational, a meet run on the same course as the state championships. Brien McMahon's Chris Madaffari also had a strong race, finishing ninth overall. Edwin Rosales led Norwalk, finishing 22nd overall. He ran 17:54 on the 5k (3.1-mile) course.
