Norwalk Triathletes Swim, Ride and Run in Westport NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk athletes were among the finishers in the Westport Kiwanis Triathlon Sunday at Compo Beach. Shane Meehan of New York won the overall race, while Stamford’s Megan Kelly paced the women’s field. There were 255 finishers in the race, which consisted of a half-mile swim, a 5 ½-mile bike ride and a 2.2-mile run. Complete results are available online. Contact Tom Renner at [email protected].

Staples Girls Top Ludlowe in Soccer Opener WESTPORT, Conn. – Staples' girls soccer team got its season off on the right foot Wednesday with a 3-1 victory over Fairfield Ludlowe in a Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference game. Abby Fagan scored in the 34th minute for Staples' first goal and a 1-0 halftime lead. Abbey Lake scored the second goal with an assist from Adele Mackay, and Mackay scored with an assist from Turner Block for the final goal. Fairfield Triathletes Race in Westport FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Many residents from Fairfield were among the finishers Sunday in the Westport Kiwanis Triathlon at Compo Beach. Shane Meehan of New York won the overall race, while Stamford’s Megan Kelly paced the women’s field. Fairfield’s Don Gustavson finished second overall with a time of 39:22.4. Jason Panzer was 12th, finishing in 45:45.1. A relay team led by Anthony Didio finished first, and a team led by Kerry Schulz finished second. Both are Fairfield residents. Among the top Westport finishers were Gabrielle and Max Wimer, teenage siblings who won their age groups. Gabrielle was 60th overall, while Max was sixth overall. 5 Fairfield Giants Named to Bowl Team FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Five members of the Fairfield Giants have been named to the third Annual Offense-Defense Youth All-American Bowl. The players are Will Melbourne, linebacker, in the 11-12 age group; Harrison Houghton, quarterback, age group 11-12; Owen Cirilli, quarterback, age group 9-10; Henry Houghton, linebacker, age group 9-10; and Finn Duran, running back, age group 9-10.
