Stamford Golfer Falls in 1st Round of Senior Am STAMFORD, Conn. – Stamford golfer Joe Sommers fell in the first round of match play Monday at the U.S. Senior Amateur golf championship in at Kinloch Golf Club in Manakin-Sabot, Va. Sommers lost to Sam Till Jr., of Fort Wayne, Ind., 4-and-3. After winning the first hole, Sommers lost the 371-yard, par-4 second hole with a bogey. Till won the next three holes, and was 4-up at the turn. The match ended when both players parred the par-4 15th hole. Norwalk 8th Grade Packers Rout Shelton, Stand 3-0 NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk Packers 8th-grade team ran its record to 3-0 with a dominating 37-6 victory over the Shelton Gaels on Sunday afternoon in its home opener at Brien McMahon High School. Norwalk kicked off the scoring with a 30-yard touchdown run by A.J. Jerome. A.J. Ibarrondo added the extra point to make it 8-0. Next Generation Diving Accepts New Students NORWALK, Conn. – Next Generation Diving has started its fall season and is accepting experienced divers as well as kids who  want to learn basics of the sport. Beginner classes are at the Norwalk YMCA on Monday and Wednesday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Next Gen's competitive team trains at the Norwalk Y on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. and at Yale University on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. For information, email Jeanine Oburchay at [email protected] or call (203) 521-2006. Greenwich Runners Go the Distance in Half Marathon GREENWICH, Conn. – Meredith Kalish finished 13th overall and was the first Greenwich finisher Saturday at the Sam Elpern Half Marathon in Norwalk. Kalish finished second among women and first in the 30-39 age group as 223 runners completed the 13.1-mile course in warm, humid conditions. Norwalkers Run Strong in Elpern Half Marathon NORWALK, Conn. – The Sam Elpern Half Marathon wrapped up the Lightfoot Running Club's Summer Series on Saturday with 223 runners completing the 13.1-mile journey in hot, muggy conditions.
