Weston Racquet Team Wins State Tourney WESTON, Conn. The Weston Racquet Club 8-and-under team won the QuickStart U.S. Tennis Association Junior state tournament while the 10-year-old team finished fourth in a strong showing a recent tournament in East Haven. Eight-and-under team members include Olivia Wen, Vivian Wen, Christian Sanchez, Jeremy Cheng, John Hui, Prem Dave, Margaret Taft and Eden Leuzzi. Zarrilli and Zengo Pace Westport Race WESTPORT, Conn. Jeff Zarrilli led a record 149 finishers across the finish line Saturday in the 49th annual Westport Summer Series 6.8-mile race at Compo Beach. It was the fourth race in the series this summer with a record number of finishers, topping the previous high of 134 set 2006. Zarrilli, of Darien, cruised home in 39:22, followed by Luke McCambley and David Mortner, both of Westport. Stamford's Jeff Watson finished fourth. Norwalk Legion Posts a Season To Remember NORWALK, Conn. Years from now, the summer of 2011 might be viewed as the season Norwalk American Legion Post 12 baseball went from being a good program to an excellent one. The team finished 28-10, won its first state championship and went 2-2 in the Northeast Regional in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Football players smacked sleds, ran patterns and caught passes during a recent practice for the Fairfield Giants, who have been working every weeknight since Aug. 1. Weston Diver Shines at League Championships WESTON, Conn. Weston Field Club diver Liam Simmons finished second on the 1-meter board and third on the 3-meter board in the Fairfield County Swimming League 12-and-under championships last week at Burning Tree Country Club in Greenwich. Simmons, 11, finished undefeated in dual meets. He and the Weston divers were coached by Fairfield native Ali Miller, a former diver at the Norwalk-based Next Generation team. Norwalk-based Swimmers Set County Marks NORWALK, Conn. Swimmers from the Norwalk-based Shore and Country Club set four records Saturday at the Fairfield County Swimming League championships at Roxbury Swim Club in Stamford. Shore & CC finished fifth in a tight race as 11 records fell at the meet. Guido Balderrama set two marks for the club, while Wilton's Stephen Holmquist and Weston's Edward Stolarski also came away with new records. New Canaan Field Club's Ian Robert won three races and 11 country records fell at Saturday's Fairfield County Swimming League championships at Roxbury Swim Club in Stamford. Records Fall as Roxbury Wins County Swimming STAMFORD, Conn. Roxbury Swim Club members set three Fairfield County Swimming League records as the cub rolled to its fourth league championship in five years Saturday at its home pool. Roxbury finished with 1,291.5 points to outdistance Rocky Point of Greenwich, which scored 1,116. Lake Club of Wilton was third with 542.
