Darien's Andrew Enzor had the game-winning hit, the game-saving catch and the wisdom to know that his team's 4-3 victory over New Milford in the winners' bracket final of the 13-year-old Babe Ruth state tournament was a critical one. "We played them earlier in the year, and we lost to them, 8-2, so we know that they're a good team,'' said Enzor, whose sixth inning single snapped a 2-2 tie and put Darien ahead for good. Fairfield Girls Head Into East Regionals FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield softball All-Stars captured their third banner of the summer on Sunday when they defeated Mystic, 6-2, to win the state softball championship. Earlier, Fairfield took home titles in District 2 and Section 1. They begin their quest for the East Regional title Friday against Vermont in Bristol. Norwalk 10U Girls Finish 3rd in State Tournament NORWALK, Conn. The Norwalk Zoomers 10-and-under softball team placed third in the Babe Ruth state tournament last weekend, finishing 3-2 with a couple of narrow setbacks. Norwalk defeated Cheshire twice, 13-2 and 9-6, and also stopped Southbury, 19-3. Norwalk lost to Stamford, 1-0, in one of the best games of the tournament. It also lost to Newtown, 9-7. Annalise Icatar, Brianny Garcia and Brenda Garcia handled the pitching duties for the Zoomers, and Dina DiBlasio caught every game. North Stamford All-Stars Fall in Sectional STAMFORD, Conn. The North Stamford Little League 10-year-old All-Stars roared through the District 1 tournament undefeated and crushed nearly everybody in their path. The Section 1 tournament, however, proved far more challenging. North Stamford finished Section 1 play Monday night with a 12-0 loss to District 2 champ Westport. Norwalk 9s Fall in District Tournament Final NORWALK, Conn. -- Like their 12-year-old counterparts, the Norwalk Cal Ripken 9-year-old All-Stars came within one inning of capturing their district championship. Stamford Junior Legion Clinches Zone 4 Title STAMFORD, Conn. The Stamford American Legion Junior team held off a furious Norwalk rally Sunday for a 6-5 win and its first Zone 4 championship. The victory sends Stamford to the state tournament beginning Monday with a home game at Cubeta Stadium. Stamford (20-6) finishes its regular season Tuesday at Cubeta Stadium against Westport. Westport 10s Reach Section 1 Final WESTPORT, Conn. Westport Little League's 10-year-old All-Stars distinguished themselves in an unbeaten run to the District 2 championship. The team's run in the Section 1 tournament has been similarly impressive. Westport clinched a berth in the championship game with a 12-0 victory Monday over North Stamford at Peter J. County Rowers Earn Spots on Junior National Team The U.S. Junior National Team that will compete in the 2011 World Rowing Junior Championships will have a strong Fairfield County presence. Rowers from Southport, Westport, Weston and New Canaan are among those selected to compete for the U.S. in the Aug. 3-7 meet at Eton Dorney, Great Britain. Sisters Rosie and Lucy Grinalds, Southport residents who compete for the Norwalk-based Connecticut Boat Club, made the team in different events. Kids Ride and Raise Money for Cancer Survivors FAIRFIELD, Conn. This year's Connecticut Challenge will include a ride for young cyclists. It starts July 30 from the Fairfield County Hunt Club, same time and place as the adult event, and will raise money for cancer survivorship programs. The junior ride will also include a few special, fun challenges along the way.
