Lightfoot Runners Postpone Saturday Race NORWALK, Conn. — The Lightfoot Running Club has postponed for one week a 7-mile race that had been scheduled to start Saturday at 8 a.m. at Brien McMahon High School. The brutal heat wave that has gripped Connecticut this week forced the delay, race director Don Capone said. Forecasts call for temperatures in the high 90s on Saturday. Norwalk Senior Legion Team Advances in States NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk's American Legion Senior team advanced to the double-elimination round of the state tournament Wednesday with a 7-4 victory over Waterford. The win sets up a game Saturday at 12:30 p.m. against Niantic at Muzzy Field in Bristol. Leon Fleming got the victory with relief help from Patrick Donohue. Cannons Stop Skid in Senior League NEW CANAAN, Conn. – The New Canaan Cannons baseball team in the Fairfield County Men's Senior Baseball League stopped a five-game losing streak Sunday with a 5-1 victory over the Westport Cardinals. The Cannons (5-9) got a strong pitching effort from pitcher Dave Dunkelberger, who got relief help from Pat Chieffalo. Steve Benko sparkled at short, while second baseman Brian Valentine and catcher Bryan Vickers also made nice defensive plays. Valentine ripped four hits, while Dave Prutting slammed a two-run double.
