Golfer Ballo Takes 2nd in Maine Tournament STAMFORD, Conn. – Stamford golfer Mike Ballo Jr. finished second Saturday at the Greater Bangor Open in Maine, falling in a playoff to Jerry Speirs on the first playoff hole. Ballo, who will be in the field for the Connecticut Open that begins Monday, made a charge with a final round 64 that left him at 7-under-par 200 for the 54-hole tournament. He finished tied for the lead at the end of regulation with Speirs, who shot a final round 67. Ballo's tee shot on the first sudden death hole hit a tree. Speirs' shot landed in the fairway. The girls pounded Massachusetts on Saturday, 11-7, for its second straight victory. Maine is the only other undefeated team from the five New England states.
