Wakeman Boys & Girls Club Wins National Honor The pre-teen character and leadership program at Wakeman Boys & Girls Club has been recognized with a Staples Torch Club Award from Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the Staples Foundation. Wakeman’s Torch Club was honored for excellence in social recreation for its members, who are age 11-13. The award recognizes programs that help club members increase their social skills and learn how to make positive use of their leisure time. Darien Football Thanks the Community On behalf of the Darien High School Football team, we would like to thank the Darien Community for its continued support through its annual car wash, which took place at Middlesex Middle School over the past weekend. It was a huge success and the proceeds that we collected will go toward the replacement of our travel jerseys. The Blue Wave football team has grown over the last few years and now has over 130 players, including 21 seniors. Staples Girls Relay Scores 2nd in New York Race Staples finished second in the girls 4 x 800 relay and seventh in the girls 4 x 400 relay in a strong performance at last weekend's Loucks Games in White Plains, N.Y. The girls 4 x 800 team of Alexandra Popkin, Georgia Kursten, Emily Hanrahan and Kristen Weiler ran 9:50.4, trailing only Nanuet, N.Y. The group was only about six seconds behind the school record of 9:44.97 set last year with a group that included Kursten, Hanrahan and Weiler.
