Weston Girls Win Relay at O'Grady Girls from Weston High School won the 4 x 200 and finished second in the sprint medley relay Saturday at the O'Grady Relays at Danbury High School. The 4 x 200 team of Sarah Dietzman, Ellie Martin, Hannah Goodman and Callie Arlo clocked in at 1:48.13. The sprint medley team of Martin, Sydney Allon, Arlo and Kara Bucaro ran 4:17.14. Simsbury won in 4:16.27. In field events, Chloe Shapiro cleared 4 feet, 10 inches, the third best jump of the day. Runners Ready To Stride on Mother's Day This Mother's Day, runners and walkers of all ages can celebrate mom and support local charities, all while enjoying a morning of fun and fitness. The Lightfoot Running Club and the Norwalk Recreation and Parks Department will present the 34th Annual Mother's Day 10K Race on Sunday at Calf Pasture Beach. For the third consecutive year, the event will also include a5K Health Walk. Net proceeds from the race will be donated to the American Heart Association. The Majors are the oldest division, followed by the Junior Majors, Minors, Junior Minors and T-Ball. The league plays its games at Scalzi Park and Kosciuszko Park. Weston Boys Lacrosse Drops 3rd Straight The Weston High School boys lacrosse team lost its third straight game Monday as the Trojans dropped an 8-3 decision to South-West Conference archrival Joel Barlow at the Falcons' field in Redding. Weston fell to 6-3 overall and 6-2 in the SWC. "Turnover after turnover,'' coach John Matthews said. "They're turning into goals for the other team, and you just can't win that way." Norwalk High Hires New Basketball Coach Tom Keyes was named the new boys basketball coach at Norwalk High School on Monday. And he has two Stamford coaches to thank for helping him get the opportunity. Keyes, 29, was tabbed Monday by athletic director Wayne Mones to take on the task of rebuilding the Bears. Keyes worked for a year as an assistant to Howard White at Westhill High School. He joined the Vikings after Stamford's Jim Moriarty, who Keyes sought out at meeting among social studies teachers in Stamford, told him to consider pursuing it. The Blue Wave's relentless pressure, at set pieces and in the loose, helped them knock off the Metropolitan region's top-ranked rugby club. It was a cliffhanger from start to finish. Girls Get Cooking To Help Relay Team Girls participating in next month’s Fairfield Relay for Life held a bake sale Saturday at the South Pine Creek soccer complex. The relay is scheduled for June 4 at Fairfield Ludlowe. The girls, whose team name is the Forget Me Nots, are eighth-graders at Tomlinson Middle School. In addition to selling baked goods, the girls sold chain links for $1. They hope to sell enough to have the chain circle the 400 meter track. New Canaan Star Shines in Very Different Sports New Canaan High School senior Alex Farina is the rare two-sport standout. The sports in which he excels make him totally unique. Farina is 3-1 with one save for the Rams' baseball team. In the winter, he won the Class L state championship in the shot put. Farina says the skills in each are surprisingly similar. "The release for pitching is shoulder oriented,'' Farina said. "For the shot put, it's a bench press. They both start from the stationary position. For pitching, it's the leg lift to generate torque. For the shot, it's keeping the shot over your right foot and turning your hips." …

Fairfield Girls Softball Players Hit the Field Cori Heyel, decked out with a pink glove, black cap and her black and red Fairfield Little League Girls Softball sweatshirt, played catch with teammate Grace Camera before the opening ceremonies Saturday at Tom Haydon Field. "I'm 7 1/2,'' Heyel said proudly as she eagerly traded throws with her friend as they waited for the day to begin.
