Westport Runners Meet Minute Man Challenge Nearly 1,400 runners participated in the Minute Man Race Sunday at Compo Beach in Westport. Tom Harding of Westport and Norwalk's Leslie Sporre won the men's and women's 10K. In the 5K, Weston's Andi Rosenblatt, 13, and Norwalk's Noredine Abdelfateh were the women's and men's winners. Runners from Westport who won their age groups in the 5K included: Max Wimer, boys 1-14; Paul Tetenbaum, boys 15-18; Nadeem Ahmad, men 40-49; Frenchy Truitt, girls 1-14; Drew Berman, girls 15-18; Hallie Chase, women 30-39; and Ida Lowe, women 60-69. Wildcats Capture Season-Opening Tournament The Click It For Cassie Wildcats went undefeated to capture the Norwalk Umpires Association season-opening 1-pitch tournament last weekend at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk. The conclusion of the tournament was delayed two weeks by weather. The Wildcats defeated the Aces, 6-5, in the championship game. En route to the title, the Wildcats defeated O'Neill's Pub, 20-13; East Coast Irrigation, 23-3; and the Aces, 5-4. In the championship game, Dave Dunkelberger had six RBIs to lead the Wildcats. The Fairfield native picked up another one last month when the U.S. women's national team won a gold medal in the International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships in Switzerland. It is just another medal? Not by a long shot. "This ranks up there,'' Chu said. "I've been part of this since 2000, and this one's one of the most meaningful. Future Stars Schedule Workouts Future Stars Basketball Academy will conduct workouts for boys in grades 7 to 9 at the Hall Neighborhood House in Bridgeport beginning Sunday. The workouts are from 8:30 to 11 a.m. for four weeks. It is limited to 15 players and tuition is $200. The camp is run by former NBA player Frank Oleynick.
