Westhill JV Baseball Wins 3rd Straight Westhill High School's junior varsity baseball team defeated Trinity Catholic, 11-3, on Thursday for its third straight victory. The win improved Westhill's record to 7-3-1. Peter Dawson gave up two earned runs, scattered six hits and struck out three in seven innings. Ryan Duggan led the offense with a double, a single, two RBIs, a walk and a stolen base. Westhill's defense also excelled behind Dawson. Shortstop Billy Murphy and second baseman Ryan Duggan were especially sharp, and center fielder Sean Remondino made a couple of great diving catches to take hits away from Trinity batters. …

Pitcher's Slam Lifts GFA to Softball Win Idalia Friedson hit a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning to propel Greens Farms Academy's softball team to a 15-11 win over Holy Child on Thursday in a Fairchester Athletic Association game. The smash capped a memorable day for the senior, who went four-for-four with two doubles and a walk. She also picked up the victory on the mound as GFA raised its record to 5-3. Greens Farms ripped 16 hits and scored four runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth in a seesaw game. The blast capped a wild comeback by the Senators, who scored two runs in the seventh to force extra innings. The left-handed hitting O'Connor, the Senators' No. 9 hitter, sent Jason Holcomb's delivery over the left field fence as the Senators improved to 11-2 overall and 10-2 in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference. Lyle Mitchell had four goals and four assists to lead the Trojans, who led 6-0 after the first quarter and 9-1 at halftime. Matt Brooks had six goals. Richie Miller (two goals), Alex Peyreigne (two goals), Joey Falci, Jamie Terrell, Kyle Allon and Jack Scheufele also scored for Weston. Miller and Eddie Hutchins had two assists. Fairfield Runners Meet Minute Man Challenge Fairfield's Susan Gold finished second overall among women in the 5-kilometer race in Sunday's Minute Man Race in Westport. Nearly 1,400 runners competed in the 5K, 10K or children's races at Westport's Compo Beach. The race was organized by the Westport Young Women's League. Gold, 56, ran 22:12 for the 3.1-mile distance. Runners Meet Minute Man Challenge Nearly 1,400 runners, most of them from Fairfield County, competed in the Minute Man Race on Sunday at Westport's Compo Beach. The event featured a 10K, 5K and children's races. The Westport Young Women's League sponsored the races. Westport's Tom Harding and Norwalk's Leslie Sporre won the men's and women's 10Ks, respectively.
