Stamford Old Timers Honor Athletes The Stamford Old Timers have selected four high school athletes to receive awards at its annual Scholarship Dinner on Sunday, June 5, at the Italian Center. The dinner will start at 6:30 p.m. The honorees include Stamford High School's Chris Cavaliere, Westhill's Eileen Tublin, King's Max Wardaki and Trinity Catholic's Shilpa Kolli. Planning Begins for Jerry Sr. Golf Tourney Planning has begun for the 24th anniversary Jerry Sr. Memorial Celebrity Golf Tournament to be held Tuesday, Aug. 9, at Innis Arden Golf Club in Old Greenwich. Proceeds will benefit Abilis, a nonprofit serving people of all ages in Greenwich and Stamford with autism, Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities. Among the featured celebrity players this year will be baseball greats Howard Johnson and Tommy John. Get Smart 5K Will Benefit Wilton Schools The Wilton Education Foundation is hosting its third annual "Get Smart for Wilton 5K" fundraiser on Sunday, May 29. Participants of all ages and athletic abilities are welcome to run or walk in the event.  All proceeds will fund school programs like technology and professional development that are hardest hit by budget cuts. Last year's race had over 250 participants. Norwalk Woman Runs Off With Mother's Day Win Norwalk's Julie Heaphy will head to the Norwalk YMCA for her 6 a.m. Monday spinning class with some new hardware to show to her fitness friends. Heaphy, 29, won the women's division of the Mother's Day 10-kilometer race Sunday at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk. Bridgeport's Wantuil Souza won the men's event in the race sponsored by the Lightfoot Running Club. There were 354 finishers in the 34th annual race. The event also featured a 5K walk. Baseball Skills Events Set for Young Players Rowayton Little League will host a Pitch, Hit and Run Challenge for ballplayers ages 7-13 Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Rowayton School Field. The event is sponsored by Major League Baseball. Stamford American Little League will host another event on May 14 at 12:30 at its field on Vine Road in Stamford.  The skills competition provides boys and girls a chance to advance through four levels. The Pequot Library in Southport and the Norfield Grange in Weston are hosting events for Saturday's 137th Run For the Roses.
