Police said that a Huckleberry Lane resident called to report an abandoned vehicle on the morning of Monday, April 10. The vehicle had been parked on the street since the day before, police said. The car, a gray 2015 Audi A4, had been left with its driver's door slightly ajar and contents strewn about the vehicle, police said. All the cars that were entered had been left unlocked, police said. The first rash of burglaries took place in the overnight hours from Tuesday, April 11 into Wednesday, April 12. Residents reported on break-in on McLaren Road, two on Fairview Avenue, two on Midbrook Avenue, one on Cherry Street, three on Robinson Street, three on Hamilton Lane and two on Charles Street. Stratford Man Charged With Snatching Ladder From Wilton Home WILTON, Conn. -- A Stratford man was charged with stealing a ladder from a Wilton home last week. On Friday, April 14, police were dispatched to Danbury Road on a report of an older Chevy pickup truck that was traveling north after having stolen a 40-foot ladder from a residence, police said.  An officer stopped the truck, which was driven by 60-year-old William Cates of Stratford, and determined that he had in fact stolen the ladder, according to police. Cates was charged with fifth-degree larceny and given a court date of April 25 with a $2,500 bond.

Darien Police K-9 Retires After Cancer Diagnosis DARIEN, Conn. -- Darien Police K-9 Grizzly has been retired after just a few months on the job after being diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer. Grizzly is a 3-and-a-half-year-old chocolate lab who was acquired by the town of Darien in September and placed with his handler, Officer Leslie Silva.
