Norwalk Man Pleads Guilty To $1.6 Million Ponzi Scheme NORWALK, Conn. – A Norwalk man pleaded guilty to operating a Ponzi scheme that defrauded investors out of more than $1.6 million, according to Deirdre M. Daly, U.S. Attorney for the district of Connecticut. James E. Neilsen, 55, waived his rights to indictment and pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud at a federal court in Hartford Thursday, Daly said. He is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Robert N. Chatigny on Dec. 22. Neilsen had been operating a Ponzi scheme since at least 2006, according to court documents. Bridgeport Man Arrested On Gun Charges After Traffic Stop BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A routine traffic stop ended with the arrest of a Bridgeport man on firearm charges Tuesday, police said. At noon, police observed a Subaru station wagon driving on Fairfield Avenue with a broken brake light. When officers ran the license plate, they found that the plates were registered to a Honda Civic, not the Subaru, police said. The car was pulled over on Laurel Avenue near Norman Street. Police: Housekeeper Stole $384K In Jewelry From Westport Home WESTPORT, Conn. – A Norwalk woman stole more than $380,000 worth of jewelry from a Westport home where she worked as a housekeeper, according to police. Martha Lopez, 57, was arrested Tuesday night and charged with first-degree larceny. She was held on $150,000 bond and will appear in court Oct. 5. A Judy Point resident reported on May 25 that a large amount of jewelry had been stolen from two safes at her home, Westport police said. New U.S. Citizens Sworn In At First-Ever Norwalk Ceremony NORWALK, Conn. – The United States welcomed 25 new citizens Tuesday during a special naturalization ceremony held at the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum in Norwalk. Norwalk Man Charged With DUI After Crashing Into Darien Cop Car DARIEN, Conn. – A Norwalk man was arrested after police said he crashed his car head-on into a police car while driving drunk Sunday morning. Cesar Lorenzo, 33, was charged with driving while intoxicated, operating without a license and failure to drive right. He posted $2,500 bond and will appear in court Oct. 2.
