New Canaan Fire Department Helps Fight Blaze At Norwalk Home NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk firefighters worked to battle two large blazes at homes on Cannon Street and Larsen Street on Monday night. The first fire was reported at a home on Cannon Street at about 5:40 p.m., according to Deputy Fire Chief Ed Prescott. The fire is believed to have started in a car before it spread to the nearby house, Prescott said. All 33 Norwalk firefighters on duty responded to the call and worked quickly to get the blaze under control after it had spread to a third-floor attic. Anthony Cameron, 24, was charged with having weapons in a motor vehicle, improper use of marker plates, driving without insurance, driving with a suspended license and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. Police: Someone Tried to Blow Up Darien Mailbox DARIEN, Conn. -- Someone may have tried to blow up a mailbox on Stephen Mather Road last weekend, Darien police said. A Darien resident reported that on Aug. 3 she went out to her mailbox and found some of her mail was charred, according to police reports. The plastic sleeve inside the mailbox that held her mail was damaged from smoke and fire, police said. Officers found what appeared to be a small firework inside the mailbox and believe that somebody tried to blow up the box, police said.
