Rye Police To Hold Protest Saturday Over Lack Of Contract RYE, N.Y. - Members of the Rye Police Association will be protesting Saturday to raise awareness about the lack of a new police contract in four years. The informational protest will be held at 17 Elm Place in the center of Rye's business district. The event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and last until about 2 p.m. The Rye Police Association represents all sworn members of the City of Rye Police Department. Residents Launch Petition To Save Rye Playland RYE, N.Y. - A group of residents have started an online petition to keep Rye Playland an amusement park. The group is against a proposed renovation by Sustainable Playland, Inc., which is one of four proposals being considered for the park. More than 1,200 people have signed the petition since it was launched on Feb. 21. It was created by Save Playland Amusement Park and is addressed to the Westchester County Executive and Board of Legislators. Report: Two Men Arrested At Westchester County Airport HARRISON, N.Y. -- Two Florida men were arrested at the Westchester County Airport after they became loud and disruptive on a JetBlue flight, according to a report from the Journal News. The two cousins refused to turn off their electronic devices and then refused orders from the captain and crew on the flight from Florida, the report said. They were arrested by county police after landing, and one of the men told an officer that he would blow up the airport, according to the report. Rye Police: Suspicious Car Approached 12-Year-Old Girl RYE, N.Y. - A 12-year-old girl was approached by a suspicious car in the vicinity of Brevoort Lane and Greenhaven Road in Rye Tuesday afternoon, police said. The girl was walking home around 4 p.m. when she was approached by a bright blue compact car with a black and white "TAXI" sticker on the door and a yellow license plate, according to police. Harrison's Purchase Panthers Make Mascot Madness HARRISON, N.Y. - The Purchase Panthers' mascot is going head-to-head against 29 other SUNY mascots in the first GenerationSUNY Mascot Madness. The tournament lets fans vote on who they think is the best State University of New York mascot. Rye Assistant Superintendent To Resign RYE, N.Y. -- The assistant superintendent for business of Rye City School District will leave her position at the end of July. Kathleen Ryan announced her resignation at the Board of Education meeting Tuesday night. Ryan has been with the district since 2007. New Canaan Mom Shocked By Son's Voice In 'Zero Dark Thirty' NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- New Canaan mother Mary Fetchet considers the use of her son's voice shortly before his death on Sept. 11 in the opening of the film "Zero Dark Thirty" to be a violation to her family and disrespectful to all those who died on 9/11. New Canaan Police Bust Up Teen Drinking Party NEW CANAAN, Conn. - New Canaan Police busted an underage drinking party at a home on Harrison Avenue on Friday night. A 17-year-old boy was issued infractions on charges of possession of alcohol by a minor and failure to halt possession of alcohol by minors. Report: Darien's Brian Cashman Breaks Ankle Skydiving DARIEN, Conn. - New York Yankees General Manager and Darien resident Brian Cashman broke his ankle Monday while skydiving in Florida, according to the New York Daily News. Cashman was jumping with the U.S. Army Golden Knights to raise awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project. His first jump was successful, but on his second jump he caught his ankle as he landed and "heard a pop," he told the New York Daily News.
