Car Tax Exemption Proposal Could Cost Darien $2 Million DARIEN, Conn. - A proposal by Gov. Dannel Malloy to exempt taxes for some cars could cost Darien more than $2 million in property tax revenue. Malloy's proposal would exempt the first $20,000 of the assessed value of a car from being taxed by a town. Darien would lose about $1.7 million in revenue from not taxing cars under that amount, according to Finance Director Kate Buch. Reducing the rest of the cars' assessed values by $20,000 would take the total losses in tax revenue to more than $2 million. Darien Police: Rob Morrison Previously Fought With Wife DARIEN, Conn. ? Former WCBS-TV anchor Rob Morrison, who was charged Sunday in an attack on his wife, had been accused of choking her in a fight earlier this year, according to Darien police. Morrison's wife, CBS Money Watch anchor Ashley Morrison, accused her husband of choking her "until she almost passed out" on Jan. 14, according to police reports. She later retracted her statement. Break-Ins Reported At Several Darien Businesses DARIEN, Conn. - Several Darien businesses were broken into Friday night, police said, though nothing appears to have been taken from any of them. A police officer walking past Mama Camerla's Deli on Post Road at 6 a.m. was flagged down by the owner, who said someone had tried to break in. The would-be burglar had tried to pry open the back door, but had been unsuccessful. The owner discovered the damage 10 minutes prior to alerting the officer. Man Charged In Christmas Eve Car Crash In Darien DARIEN, Conn. - A Stamford man was charged with driving while intoxicated after a Christmas Eve car crash that knocked out power to 600 Darien homes. Russell Pinto, 45, turned himself in to Darien police on Feb. 11 after being advised of a warrant for his arrest. He posted $250 bond and will appear in court Feb. 21. Pinto was driving his Toyota Highlander on Post Road near Gardiner Street on Dec. 24 when it went off the road and hit a utility pole, according to police reports. Rob Morrison Resigns From Wcbs After Darien Arrest DARIEN, Conn. -- Rob Morrison has resigned from WCBS-TV following his arrest at his Darien home Sunday morning, the station announced Wednesday. Darien Selectmen Approve $42.66 Million Town Budget DARIEN, Conn. — New sidewalk projects and improvements to the Post Road were among the spending items cut before the Darien Board of Selectmen approved a $42.66 million budget Tuesday night. The 2013-14 budget is a 5.98 percent increase over this year. The Board of Selectmen cut about $465,000 from the original proposed budget for next year. Wcbs Anchor Rob Morrison Denies Choking Wife In Darien DARIEN, Conn. ? WCBS-TV morning news anchor Rob Morrison denied choking his wife at their Darien home as he appeared in court on several domestic violence charges Tuesday. "I did not choke my wife. I've never laid my hands on my wife. I was just as surprised by that particular charge as probably everybody else who's heard about this story," Morrison told reporters before being arraigned. Man Charged With Hitting Norwalk Cop, Carrying Gun NORWALK, Conn. ? A 21-year-old Bridgeport man was arrested Saturday for allegedly carrying a handgun and punching a Norwalk police officer, police said. Frank Wright was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon, assault on a police officer, criminal possession of a revolver, interfering with an officer and carrying a gun without a permit.
